How to Add a Book Button on Instagram: 2026 Setup

Quick answer: To add a Book button to Instagram, use a business account and one of the 22 booking partners Meta lists, such as Square, Vagaro or Fresha. Tap Edit profile, Action buttons, Book now, then sign in to the partner (Fresha and Acuity also connect from their own settings). One action button shows at a time, and Meta says it may not be available to you yet.

If you are asking “how do I add a Book button to my Instagram” or “how do I let people book appointments from my Instagram”, this guide follows Meta’s own Instagram Help Centre wording, read on 24 October 2026, and checks each booking tool against its own help page. It covers the Book now, Reserve and Order food action buttons, business and creator accounts, Appointments by Square, Vagaro, Fresha, Booksy, Acuity Scheduling, MyTime, Schedulista, StyleSeat and Timely, plus the fallbacks: profile links, the Stories link sticker, the action-button lead form, and booking inside Instagram Direct. It does not cover the Instagram API; if you are automating DMs, that is a different job, covered further down.

Where Zian fits when people DM instead of tapping Book

Zian fits the inbox side of Instagram booking: the Book button serves people who are ready to book, and Zian’s AI agents handle the ones who message first, answering in Instagram DMs, qualifying the lead and booking the appointment. Zian is an AI sales and reception agents platform, inbound and outbound, in partnership-application beta, and zian.ai lists 50,769+ qualified sales appointments set.

Keep your partner Book button live for the decided buyer. Zian runs the Instagram DM and Facebook Messenger conversations alongside voice calls, SMS, email and WhatsApp, books from inbound and outbound conversations, and can follow up by SMS, email or a call when the Instagram window has closed. Its AI receptionist answers inbound phone calls 24/7 for the clients who would rather ring. It works in 30+ languages and connects to HubSpot, Salesforce, HighLevel and Zapier. Each of its three listed plans, including Intel + Widgets (Free Forever), starts with a partnership application. If you would rather not run any software, LeadsNow.ai is the done-for-you option built on Zian: pay-per-result, with leads answered in under 60 seconds, 24/7.

What you need before the Instagram Book button will appear

The Book button is not a setting you switch on in Instagram alone. It is a connection between your Instagram profile and a booking tool that Meta has accepted as a partner. Meta’s article About action buttons for Instagram Business profiles says: “Remember that you need an existing account with a partner to select them.” So the order matters: booking tool first, Instagram second.

Meta lists three action buttons on that page: Book now (“Book an appointment”), Reserve (“Make a reservations at a restaurant”) and Order food (“Get food delivery or take-out from a business”). It also says: “Only one action button can be displayed on your profile at a time.” A salon that wants both a Book button and a gift-card button has to choose. Some older partner guides, such as Vagaro’s from 2023, also mention a Get Tickets button; Meta’s current action-button pages list only the three above.

Requirement What Meta’s help pages say What to check on day one
Account type Partner page: “only available for business and creator accounts”. The add-a-button page is written for a “business account”. Your profile is professional. If you are on a creator account and cannot see Action buttons, switch to business.
Partner account “Remember that you need an existing account with a partner to select them.” You can log in to the booking tool, and its online booking page is live.
Availability “This feature is being gradually introduced and may not be available to you yet.” Action buttons appear below Public business information in Edit profile.
One button only “Only one action button can be displayed on your profile at a time.” You are happy to replace any existing Reserve or Order food button.
Device Meta’s steps are written for the app (“Tap Edit profile”); Schedulista says clients book in “the Instagram app on their mobile phones”. You have the current Instagram app on your phone.

Switching account type is free and reversible. Meta’s professional account setup page gives the app path: Profile, then More (Settings and activity), then “Below For professionals, tap Account type and tools”, then Switch to professional account, choose a category, and choose Business or Creator. Two side effects are worth knowing before you tap. Meta says that “If your personal account is private, switching to a professional account will make it public”, and that all pending follow requests are then accepted. Meta’s Editing Your Profile page adds that “business profiles aren’t able to make their accounts private.”

How to add a Book button on Instagram: the steps

Meta’s article Add an action button to your Instagram business account gives the same five steps for iPhone, Android and the computer help version, as at 24 October 2026:

  1. Go to your business account on Instagram.
  2. Tap Edit profile.
  3. Below Public business information, tap Action buttons.
  4. Select the action button you want to add to your profile. Meta’s wording is: “Connect the button to an online service or add a lead form to gather contact info.” For bookings, choose Book now and then your booking partner.
  5. After you select a partner or set up a lead form, tap Done.

Between steps 4 and 5, the partner’s login screen opens. The partner pages we read describe a similar pattern, though not every page shows every step: sign in with your booking-tool credentials, pick the business or location to connect (Square’s and MyTime’s guides show this), then confirm. MyTime’s, Vagaro’s and Schedulista’s guides show that confirmation as a Meta screen (“Continue as [your account]”); Booksy’s, Timely’s and StyleSeat’s stop at signing in. Vagaro’s guide adds an “Authorize” step on a Facebook access screen. Schedulista’s guide says Instagram “will ask you to select the Facebook/Meta business page, Ads account, and Pixel associated with the login email address for your Instagram account”, and that if you do not have these set up yet, “it will ask you to create a business account for this purpose.”

That Facebook Page, ad account and Pixel prompt is not an upsell by the booking tool. It comes from how Meta builds the integration. Meta’s developer documentation for the Meta Business Extension Appointments flow lists the assets a partner’s onboarding creates or selects: Business Manager, ad account, an optional catalogue, Instagram profile, Facebook Page and Meta Pixel. The same flow sets the Instagram button, and its only supported text is “Book Now”.

One menu label varies. Meta’s own steps say Action buttons. Square’s, Booksy’s, Vagaro’s and Timely’s guides say Contact options, then Add an action button. Timely’s help page goes further: “When you are initially setting up Timely as a partner via Instagram’s mobile app, you are best to choose contact options vs action buttons, as there may be a glitch where you do not have all partners available to be selected.” If one label does not show your partner, try the other.

Your first action on day one: confirm your account is a business account and your booking tool’s online booking page is switched on. Both take minutes and both block everything after them. Your finish state: a Book button on your profile that, tapped from a second account on a phone, opens your booking page and creates a test appointment in your booking tool’s calendar. Then remove the test booking.

To remove or swap the button later, Meta’s removal steps are: Edit profile, below Public business information tap Action buttons, tap Current button, select the button, then tap Remove action button. Fresha warns that turning off its integration does not remove the button: you must remove it on Instagram too, “as these won’t disappear automatically”.

Which booking tools support the Instagram Book button?

Meta’s page About action button partners on Instagram names 22 Book now partners as at 24 October 2026: Acuity Scheduling, Appointments by Square, Appointy, Avec, BeautyDate, Booksy, Fresha, GenBook, GetSquire, Gettimely, GlossGenius, Gopanache, MyTime, Salon Iris, Schedulicity, Schedulista, Setmore, Shore, StyleSeat, SumUp, Treatwell and Vagaro. Meta calls this “a list of some partners”, so it is not a complete register, and it adds: “Some action buttons might not be available to you yet.”

Being on Meta’s list tells you a connection exists. It does not tell you where you start, what plan you need, or what breaks. That is on each partner’s own help page, so we opened them. This is the Instagram Book button partner check, the first of this page’s two reference tables. Our rule for the second column: “Yes” means the tool’s own help page or blog, read on 24 October 2026, gives Instagram Book button steps for that tool. Tools on Meta’s list whose own page we did not open are not scored; they are named above.

Booking tool On Meta’s Book now list? Own page gives Instagram Book steps? Where you start Condition the tool’s page states Tool’s own page
Square Appointments Yes (as “Appointments by Square”) Yes In Instagram: Contact Options, Add an Action Button, “Appointments for Square” Square Appointments Free, Plus or Premium; Square Free, Plus or Premium with advanced bookings added; or bookings mode on Square Point of Sale; plus an online booking site Square Support Center
Acuity Scheduling Yes Yes In Instagram, or in Acuity via Integrations, Facebook Business and Instagram Instagram business profile, latest app, owner of the Acuity subscription; “It’s not possible to connect Acuity to more than one Instagram account” Acuity Help Center
Fresha Yes Yes In Fresha: Add-ons, Facebook and Instagram bookings, then Meta login Business listed on the Fresha Marketplace; a Meta business account Fresha Help Center
Booksy Yes Yes In Instagram: Contact Options, Add an Action Button, Booksy Business profile; Booksy Business account login Booksy Biz blog
Vagaro Yes Yes In Instagram: Contact options, Add an action button, Vagaro Business account; authorise on the Facebook access screen Vagaro Learn
MyTime Yes Yes In Instagram: Action buttons, Book Now, MyTime Business account; MyTime’s “Accessing Website Tools” access control MyTime Help
Schedulista Yes Yes In Instagram: Action Buttons, Book Now, Schedulista A Facebook/Meta business page, ad account and Pixel (Instagram prompts for them); mobile app only Schedulista Support
StyleSeat Yes Yes (blog dated 2020) In Instagram: Action Buttons, Book Now, StyleSeat Business account; current Instagram app StyleSeat blog
Timely Yes (as “Gettimely”) Yes In Instagram: contact options, add an action, Timely Instagram business page; use contact options if partners are missing Timely Help

Two patterns show up. Most partners start inside Instagram, but Fresha’s steps start inside Fresha (its FAQ also mentions linking “directly through Instagram”), and Acuity offers both routes. And a partner’s name in Instagram may not match Meta’s list exactly: Meta lists “Appointments by Square”, while Square’s steps say to select “Appointments for Square”. Search the partner list for the brand word, not the full name.

Popular schedulers such as Calendly and Mindbody do not appear on Meta’s Book now list as at 24 October 2026. Because Meta calls its list “some partners”, that is not proof either tool cannot connect, so check the tool’s own help centre. If it has no Instagram action-button guide, use the link options in the section on what to do if your booking tool is not listed.

Reserve and Order food buttons for restaurants

The same Action buttons menu carries the restaurant buttons, and the rule is the same: one button, one partner account. Meta’s partner page names 13 Reserve partners: Bookatable, Chope, Gurunavi, Jasper’s Ristorante, OpenTable, Quandoo, Reserve, Restorando, Resy, SevenRooms, TheFork, Tock and Yelp.

Order food partners are listed by country on Meta’s food order partners and countries page. In the US it names 14: Allset, Caviar, ChowNow, delivery.com, DoorDash, Grubhub, LoyLap, Postmates, Ritual, Seamless, Slice, SpeedETab, Toast and Uber Eats. In Australia it names 7: Caviar, Deliveroo, DoorDash, Hungry Hungry, Menulog, Ritual and Uber Eats. Meta says: “If your country is not listed, food order partners may not be available in your region.” A restaurant that takes both bookings and orders still gets one button, so pick the one that earns more.

Instagram Book button not showing: troubleshooting table

This is the second reference table: the Book button troubleshooting table. Each row pairs a symptom with the wording that explains it, and that wording comes from Meta’s or the partner’s own page, never from a forum guess.

Symptom Likely cause The source’s own wording Fix
No Action buttons option in Edit profile Personal account, or the feature has not reached your account Meta: “This feature is being gradually introduced and may not be available to you yet.” Switch to a business account; update the app; if it is still missing, use profile links meanwhile
Creator account, no Book option Meta’s pages differ: one says business and creator, the add-a-button page says business Meta: “only available for business and creator accounts on Instagram” Switch account type to Business (Account type and tools, Switch account type); you can switch back
Your booking tool is not in the partner list Not a Meta partner, partner not available in your country, or a menu glitch Meta: “Some action buttons might not be available to you yet.” Timely: “there may be a glitch where you do not have all partners available” Try Contact options instead of Action buttons; search the brand word; check the tool’s own help page
Fresha not showing as a partner A Fresha-side step is missing Fresha: check account type, that your marketplace profile “is published and online booking is enabled”, and “try linking via Facebook Business Suite” Start from Fresha Add-ons, not Instagram
Sign-in or connection fails No Facebook Page, ad account or Pixel; wrong login method Acuity: change your Squarespace login “from social login to email login” on an authentication error Create or select the Meta assets when prompted; Acuity users can also approve via Facebook Business Apps
Wrong Facebook business connected The Meta business tied to your login email was picked Schedulista: to change it “you will need to contact Meta support for assistance” Contact Meta support through Meta Business Suite Help
Button still showing after you turned off the integration Removal is a separate step on Instagram Fresha: buttons “won’t disappear automatically” Remove it in Edit profile, Action buttons, Current button, Remove action button
A second Instagram account will not connect Partner limit Acuity: “It’s not possible to connect Acuity to more than one Instagram account.” One booking account per Instagram profile, or ask the partner

Many Instagram bookings start as a message, not a tap. If you want an AI agent to answer those Instagram DMs, qualify the lead and book the appointment, Zian runs that conversation. Apply For Partnership

If your booking tool is not on Meta’s list

You still have four Meta-documented ways to put a booking link in front of people. None gives you the native Book button, but each works with any booking page, including Calendly or a page on your own site.

Route Meta’s rule Where it lives Best for
Profile links “You can add up to 5 websites to your Instagram profile.” Edit profile, Links, Add external link Any booking tool; make the booking page the first link
Bio text A bio of “up to 150 characters”, visible to anyone Edit profile, Bio Pointing people to the link: “Book below”
Link sticker in Stories Link stickers “can only be used in organic Instagram Stories”; ads use a call-to-action sticker Story camera, sticker tray, Link Promoting open slots for the next 24 hours
Action-button lead form “Connect the button to an online service or add a lead form to gather contact info.” Edit profile, Action buttons Taking enquiries when no booking partner fits; you book them yourself

The paths come from Meta’s pages on adding a website to your profile and the link sticker. Meta’s stickers page says to enter the URL, tap See Preview, and that “Anyone who can see your story can tap the sticker to visit the link.” A link is one tap further from a booking than the native button, because the person leaves Instagram for your booking page. The lead form keeps them on Instagram but books no one: you, or your software, still have to follow up.

Can customers book an appointment inside Instagram DMs?

Partly, and the answer depends on whose software is answering. Meta’s Appointments onboarding documentation sets a “Book Now” button for a business’s Facebook Page, its Instagram account and its Messenger chats. It also has an optional “thread_intent” setting, described as a “Messenger suggestion for business admins to easily send their appointment availability to a user in chat.” Both chat features are written for Messenger. The Instagram setting is the profile button covered above. Acuity’s page says the same of its integration: a Book Now button plus “the option to send your scheduling page through Facebook Messenger.”

Meta also has its own AI agent. In Meta’s June 2026 announcement, Meta says its Business Agent can “Book appointments and qualify incoming leads”, that “We’re also expanding Business Agent to Instagram”, and that “connecting with the tools to manage your calendar” is something it will expand to “in the future”.

Whatever answers the DM is bound by one clock. Meta’s Instagram Messaging API overview says that for most user actions the standard messaging window “lasts 24 hours”, and that after a first message from a Click-to-Direct ad “the window may last up to 7 days from that message.” A human agent tag allows later manual replies under separate rules. The setup for that is in our guide to automating Instagram DM replies.

Why people still message instead of tapping Book

A Book button only serves people who already know what they want. The button opens a booking page with services, prices and slots. Anyone with a question first, about a price, a colour correction, whether you do a treatment, or a time that is not shown, finds no field for it on a booking page, so a DM is the natural place to ask. A reel or a comment thread also sends people to the inbox, not the profile. And the button is a mobile-app feature: Schedulista says clients book “using the Instagram app on their mobile phones.”

So treat the Book button and the inbox as two doors to the same calendar. The button handles the decided buyer at any hour. The inbox handles everyone else, and it is the door where bookings get lost: a question left unanswered over a weekend can outlast the 24-hour window, and by then the person may have booked elsewhere. If your comments trigger DMs, our guide to Instagram comment-to-DM automation covers Meta’s one-private-reply rule.

The options for answering those DMs, in the order we would consider them: an AI agent platform that runs the conversation and books, with Zian as our first pick; a done-for-you service such as LeadsNow.ai; Meta’s own Business Agent, which says it books appointments but lists calendar tools as a future capability; or replying by hand within the window. Our guide to choosing an AI appointment setter for Instagram compares the agents on eight checks.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add a Book button to my Instagram?

Use a business account and open an account with a Meta booking partner first. Then tap Edit profile, tap Action buttons below Public business information, choose Book now, pick your partner, sign in and tap Done. Some partner guides, such as Square’s and Booksy’s, call the menu Contact options, then Add an action button.

Why don’t I have the Book button on Instagram?

The usual causes are a personal account, a booking tool that is not a Meta partner, or a gradual rollout. Meta’s own add-an-action-button article says: “This feature is being gradually introduced and may not be available to you yet.” Switch to a business account, update the app, and try the Contact options route.

Which booking apps work with the Instagram Book button?

Meta’s partner page names 22 Book now partners as at 24 October 2026, including Acuity Scheduling, Appointments by Square, Booksy, Fresha, GlossGenius, MyTime, Setmore, StyleSeat, Timely (listed as Gettimely) and Vagaro. Meta calls it a list of some partners, so check your tool’s own help page too.

Can I add a Book button to a creator account?

Meta’s partner page says action buttons are available for business and creator accounts, but its step-by-step article is written for business accounts. If a creator account does not show Action buttons, switch to a business account under Account type and tools. You can switch back at any time.

Can I add a Calendly link as the Instagram Book button?

Calendly does not appear on Meta’s Book now partner list as at 24 October 2026, and Meta’s list is not complete, so check Calendly’s own help centre. Any booking page, Calendly included, can go in your profile links (up to 5) or on a Stories link sticker.

Can I have a Book button and an Order food button at the same time?

No. Meta says only one action button can be displayed on your profile at a time. A business that takes bookings and food orders has to choose one, and can put the other link in its profile links.

Can customers book an appointment in Instagram DMs?

Yes, if software or a person answers the message and books it. Meta says a messaging app has the standard messaging window to respond, which lasts 24 hours for most user actions and up to 7 days after a first message from a Click-to-Direct ad; a human agent tag allows later replies under separate rules. An AI agent, such as Zian’s, can run that conversation and book the slot.
