Quick answer: Meta business verification “may take up to 14 working days”, or as little as 10 minutes; partner-led verification usually takes minutes, up to 24 hours. Meta Verified on WhatsApp “may take up to three business days”. An Official Business Account needs 30 days on the platform first, and Meta publishes no OBA or display-name review time, as at 26 October 2026.
If you typed “how long does my WhatsApp Business verification take”, the honest answer starts with a question back: which one? Meta runs at least six separate reviews that people call “WhatsApp verification”. They are Meta business verification in Meta Business Suite’s Security Centre, partner-led verification through a Meta Solution Partner, display-name verification on the WhatsApp Business Platform (Cloud API), the Official Business Account (OBA) blue checkmark, the paid Meta Verified for Business subscription on the WhatsApp Business app, and the content reviews for message templates, catalogue items and business broadcasts. Each has a different trigger, a different owner and a different published wait. Everything below comes from Meta’s own pages: the Meta Business Help Centre, Meta for Developers and the WhatsApp Help Centre, read on 26 October 2026.
Where Zian fits
None of these verifications has to finish before an AI agent can answer customers on WhatsApp: Meta says a new WhatsApp Business Platform account can begin sending immediately. Verification is between your business and Meta (or a Meta Solution Partner); Zian’s job starts on the conversation side, running WhatsApp replies and follow-up and booking the appointment.
Zian is an AI sales and reception agents platform. Its agents answer inbound calls 24/7 as an AI receptionist and follow up by voice, SMS, email, WhatsApp, Instagram DMs and Facebook Messenger, with SmartReach AI™ pacing the channel and timing of each follow-up. A higher messaging limit, a verified business name or a badge changes how many people you can reach and how your name appears, not whether the conversation itself can run.
How long does WhatsApp Business verification take? The verification timeline table
This is the citable core of the page: every Meta process that gets called “verification”, who needs it, Meta’s own published time in Meta’s own words, and what stops it. Where Meta publishes no time, the cell says so, and we checked each of those pages for other content to make sure the fetch worked.
| Process | Who needs it | Meta’s published time (exact wording) | What blocks or delays it | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Meta business verification (Meta Business Suite, Security Centre) | API users who want the 2,000 messaging limit, 20 registered numbers, 6,000 templates or an OBA; also some advertising and developer features | “may take up to 14 working days” (US edition: “14 business days”); WhatsApp scaling page: “in as little as 10 minutes and as long as 14 business days” | Details that do not exactly match the legal entity; a website that does not load or is not HTTPS; no matching record, so documents are needed; editing details later means verifying again | Meta Business Help Centre; scaling page |
| Partner-led business verification | Businesses onboarded through Embedded Signup by an approved Select or Premier Solution Partner | “Most requests are resolved within minutes, but some can take up to 24 hours”; developer page: “average turnaround time … is 5 minutes, but can take several hours” | Partner not approved for the path; three rejected submissions, after which you verify yourself; applies to WhatsApp only | Meta Business Help Centre; Meta for Developers |
| Quality-messaging scaling path (no verification) | API users who skip verification | No review time published, as at 26 October 2026; on approval Meta “immediately increases” the limit to 2,000 | Needs 2,000 delivered template messages to unique users outside service windows in a 30-day moving period, from high-quality templates; Meta can defer or deny | Meta for Developers |
| Display-name verification | Every WhatsApp Business Platform number, once it reaches a higher messaging limit | Meta does not publish a time, as at 26 October 2026 | Names that break the display name guidelines; an approved name change must be re-registered within 14 days; 10 changes per 30-day period | Meta for Developers; guidelines |
| Official Business Account (blue checkmark on an API number) | WhatsApp Business Platform numbers only; not app numbers, employees or test accounts | No review time published, as at 26 October 2026; after a rejection, “you can submit a new request after 30 days” | Must be registered on the platform “for at least 30 days”, with a verified portfolio, an approved display name and two-step verification | Meta for Developers |
| Meta Verified for Business on WhatsApp (paid subscription) | WhatsApp Business app accounts that see the Meta Verified option | “may take up to three business days, and may take longer in some instances due to high volumes of submissions”; a profile-name update “typically takes about 48 hours” | Not yet available in your country or account; business name differs from profile name; a newly registered business not found (try again after 4 weeks); editing the profile after subscribing | WhatsApp Help Centre; troubleshooting |
| Message template review | Any API sender using templates | “It can take up to 24 hours for an approval decision to be made”; appeals decided “within 24 hours” | Variable formatting, policy breaches, character limits, duplicates | Meta for Developers |
| Catalogue item review | WhatsApp Business app sellers | No time published on the catalogue pages we read, as at 26 October 2026 | Items that do not comply with the Commerce Policy; items stay hidden until approved | WhatsApp Help Centre |
| Business broadcast review | WhatsApp Business app users sending business broadcasts | No time published on the page we read, as at 26 October 2026 | Content Meta judges harmful; you are told how to update the draft | WhatsApp Help Centre |
Of the review times Meta does publish, business verification is the longest, at up to 14 working days, which is roughly three calendar weeks. In calendar terms the slowest route of all is the Official Business Account, because its 30-day registration requirement is a floor before you can even ask.
The six WhatsApp verifications people mix up
Most confusion comes from two words, “verified” and “badge”, being used for unrelated processes. Meta itself puts the warning on several of its business verification pages: verifying your business in Meta Business Suite “is different from Meta Verified for businesses and won’t give you a verified badge”.
1. Meta business verification: up to 14 working days
This is the document-and-details check run from Security Centre in Meta Business Suite. You need full control of the business portfolio. Meta’s step-by-step article asks for the legal business name, address, phone number and website, says the website must load and be HTTPS compliant, and then asks you to confirm your connection by email, phone, text message, WhatsApp message or domain verification. If no matching record is found, you may be asked to upload official documents: a certificate of incorporation, a business registration or licence document, a government-issued business tax document, a business bank statement, or a utility bill (accepted for address and phone number only, never for the legal name). Documents must be unexpired and in one of Meta’s supported languages, or translated into English with a translating agency’s official stamp.
Meta’s UK English edition of the help page says a decision “may take up to 14 working days”; the US English edition of the same article says “14 business days”. Meta’s WhatsApp-specific scaling page adds the other end of the range: a decision “can be made in as little as 10 minutes”. The catch, in Meta’s own words, is that “if you edit your business details, then you need to complete the verification process again”, so settle your legal name and website before you submit.
2. Partner-led verification: usually minutes, up to 24 hours
If a Meta Solution Partner onboarded you through Embedded Signup, it may be able to submit your business for verification on your behalf. Meta’s developer page limits this to approved Select or Premier Solution Partners, says “the average turnaround time for a submission is 5 minutes, but can take several hours”, and tells partners to open a support ticket if no outcome arrives after 24 hours. The Help Centre version says “most requests are resolved within minutes, but some can take up to 24 hours”. Two limits matter: a partner gets three submissions per client, after which you must verify yourself, and the result “does not apply to other Meta technologies”, so it will not verify you for Facebook advertising features.
3. Display-name verification: no published time
Every WhatsApp Business Platform number carries a display name. Meta’s display name article says you don’t need a display name review “to get started” and “can begin sending messages to customers immediately”. The review happens later: Meta’s developer documentation says that “when you reach a higher messaging limit, your business phone number’s display name automatically undergoes verification”, and a webhook plus a Meta Business Suite notification tell you the outcome. We read four Meta pages on display names on 26 October 2026 (the developer page, the help article, the change-name article and the guidelines) and none gives a review time. Until it is approved, the name appears on your profile but not necessarily at the top of each chat.
4. Official Business Account: a 30-day floor, then no published time
The OBA is the badge for API numbers. Meta’s developer page, updated 19 September 2026, describes it as a business phone number with “a blue checkmark beside their name in the contacts view”, and lists five conditions: compliance with the WhatsApp Business Messaging Policy, registration on the platform “for at least 30 days”, a business portfolio verified through Business Verification, two-step verification on the number, and an approved display name. Meta adds that OBA status is not granted “to business employees, test accounts, and WhatsApp Business app phone numbers”, and that after a denial you must wait 30 days before asking again. Neither the developer page nor the Help Centre request article gives a review time for the request itself, as at 26 October 2026. The Help Centre’s display name article goes further and says an OBA applicant “must be considered a notable business”, meaning a well-known business “that has a substantial presence in news articles from publications with sizable audiences”. If you are searching for the WhatsApp “green tick”, this is the programme, and Meta’s current page describes the mark as blue.
5. Meta Verified for Business on WhatsApp: up to three business days
Meta Verified is a paid subscription, bought inside the WhatsApp Business app under Tools. WhatsApp’s subscription guide says “the verification process may take up to three business days, and may take longer in some instances due to high volumes of submissions”, after which “the blue tick will appear on your business profile”. Its plans (Business Standard, Plus, Premium and Max on the plans page) all list a verified badge and impersonation protection.
Three caveats come straight from WhatsApp’s own pages. First, availability: the eligibility page requires you to be at least 18, to have a phone number “in a country where Meta Verified for businesses is available”, to have a presence on the WhatsApp Business app for “a certain number of days”, a recently sent message, and a profile name and picture, and the troubleshooting page says the product “is slowly rolling out and isn’t available for everyone yet”. We could not find a country list on the Meta Verified pages we read, as at 26 October 2026, so the test is in the app: if Meta Verified does not appear under Tools or Settings, it is not available to you yet. Second, the badge is not guaranteed: WhatsApp’s verified accounts page says “subscribing to Meta Verified or Meta One doesn’t guarantee a verified badge”, and a badge can later be removed. Third, editing your WhatsApp Business profile after subscribing can cost you the verified status. Meta also sells a bundled Meta One subscription whose business plans include a verified badge “only after your business is verified”, but its help page says Meta One “is currently in limited testing and isn’t available everywhere yet”.
6. Template, catalogue and broadcast reviews
These are content reviews, not identity checks, but they are what people mean when they ask how long WhatsApp takes to “approve” something. Meta’s template review page says a template decision “can take up to 24 hours” and that an appeal is decided within 24 hours. On the WhatsApp Business app, the catalogue guide says “every image uploaded to the catalog is subject to a review” and items “will only be visible to your customers after they have been approved by WhatsApp”; it gives no time. Business broadcasts on the app are likewise “subject to review by Meta before you send them”, with no published time on the page we read, as at 26 October 2026.

Which verification takes the longest? The 30-day floor
For a blue checkmark on an API number, the slowest step is not a review at all; it is the calendar. Here is the earliest timeline Meta’s own conditions allow, assuming you register a number and submit business verification on the same day (day 0).
- Day 0: number registered on the WhatsApp Business Platform; Meta business verification submitted. You can already send, to 250 unique people per moving 24 hours outside a customer service window.
- Day 0 to roughly day 20: verification decision, anywhere from 10 minutes to 14 working days (14 working days is two weeks and four working days, so about 18 to 20 calendar days, longer across public holidays). Meta then checks your message quality, and on approval the messaging limits page says it “immediately” lifts the limit to 2,000.
- After the limit rises: display-name verification starts automatically. Meta publishes no duration, as at 26 October 2026.
- Day 30 at the earliest: the OBA request becomes possible, if verification, display name and two-step verification are all in place.
- After day 30: OBA review, with no published time as at 26 October 2026. A denial pushes the next attempt to day 60 at the earliest.
Compare the app: a Meta Verified subscriber who is eligible and whose names match faces a published wait of up to three business days. That is the single biggest timing difference on this page, and it is why the answer to “how long does it take to get verified on WhatsApp” depends on whether you are on the app or the API.
The volume route has its own arithmetic. Skipping verification, you need 2,000 delivered template messages to unique users outside service windows within a 30-day moving period. At a 250 limit, that takes at least eight rolling days (2,000 ÷ 250 = 8), and only if every message is delivered from high-quality templates. Meta then assesses quality and approves or denies, with no published assessment time as at 26 October 2026. Once you are at 2,000, each further step to 10,000, 100,000 and unlimited happens “within 6 hours” of meeting the criteria.
Which WhatsApp verification do I need?
Start from what you want, not from the word “verification”. This decision table maps each goal to the one process that delivers it. “Not published” means we found no time on Meta’s pages as at 26 October 2026.
| What you want | The process that gives it | Meta’s stated time | What you can skip |
|---|---|---|---|
| Start sending from the API | None: create the account and register the number | Meta: you “can begin sending messages to customers immediately” | All verifications, to begin |
| Message more than 250 unique people per 24 hours outside a service window | One scaling path: partner-led verification, Meta business verification, or 2,000 quality messages in 30 days | Minutes to 24 hours (partner); 10 minutes to 14 business days (Meta); at least 8 days of sending (volume) | Meta Verified (not one of Meta’s listed scaling paths) |
| Register more than 2 numbers | Business verification, or reaching the 2,000 limit | Cap rises to 20 automatically | OBA |
| Hold more than 250 templates per Messaging account | Business verification plus an approved display name | Up to 6,000 templates; no separate time | Meta Verified |
| Show your business name at the top of chats | Display-name verification | Not published; starts automatically at a higher limit | OBA |
| A blue tick on the WhatsApp Business app | Meta Verified for Business (paid), where available | Up to three business days | Meta business verification (it gives no badge) |
| A blue checkmark on an API number | Official Business Account request | Not published; 30 days on the platform first | Meta Verified (app product) |
| Use a new message template | Message template review | Up to 24 hours | Badges |
| Sell from a WhatsApp Business app catalogue | Catalogue item review | Not published | Business verification |
If you have not yet decided between the WhatsApp Business app and the API, our guide to automating WhatsApp Business messages on the app versus the API sets out where the free app stops. If you have decided on the API, the full build sequence, from business portfolio to first approved template, is in our guide to applying for WhatsApp Business API access; this page deliberately does not repeat it.
Why WhatsApp verification gets rejected, in Meta’s words
Each rejection has its own wording and its own fix. The quotes below are from the Meta page linked in the first column.
| What was rejected | Meta’s stated reason | What to do next |
|---|---|---|
| Business verification | “Submitting, or being suspected of submitting, false or misleading information”; claiming a portfolio you don’t own or can’t represent; trying “to circumvent Meta’s verification review system”; a website that “fails to load, is not HTTPS compliant … or contains a link that leads to an error message” | Fix the website and details; check whether you can appeal in Security Centre or the platform where you started |
| Verification documents | A utility bill “is not an acceptable document for Legal Business Name verification”; documents must be “not expired”; unsupported languages need “English translations with official stamps of a translating agency” | Upload a registration, incorporation, tax or bank document showing the exact legal name |
| Partner-led verification | Example rejection reason: LEGAL_NAME_NOT_FOUND_IN_DOCUMENTS; “limited to three submissions for a given client” | After three rejections, complete Meta business verification yourself |
| Display name | Status DECLINED; the guidelines bar generic terms, place names alone, “Official” or “Verified”, references to Meta or its apps, promotional language, and website or email formats | Edit the name to match your legal name or external branding (“by [company name]” where needed), or appeal through Developer Support |
| Official Business Account | Denied: the account “does not meet the eligibility requirements at this time” | Wait 30 days, then re-request; Meta says you can still edit your profile picture, email, website and description meanwhile |
| Meta Verified on WhatsApp | “If your business name differs from the profile name of your WhatsApp Business account, we won’t be able to verify you”; ID photos “too blurry” or “a picture of a screenshot”; changes to the profile after subscribing | Use Update profile name (about 48 hours), retry after 4 weeks if newly registered, or re-photograph the ID |
| Message template | Parameter formatting, “content that violates WhatsApp’s Commerce Policy” or the Business Policy, character limits, and duplicates | Edit and resubmit, or appeal with a sample (decided within 24 hours) |
| Catalogue item | A red exclamation icon; “Catalog items are rejected for a variety of reasons” | Check the Commerce Policy, then tap Request another review |
A rejection is not a restriction. If WhatsApp has limited or blocked your number rather than refused a review, that is a different problem with a different clock, covered in our guide to fixing a restricted WhatsApp Business account.
What makes WhatsApp verification slip, and how to keep it short
Meta’s pages name the same handful of delays again and again. Most can be removed before you submit.
- Name drift. Your legal name, website, display name and WhatsApp profile name should tell one story. Meta Verified fails outright on a name mismatch, and display names must have “a clear relationship with the business’s legal name”.
- A website that fails the HTTPS check. It is a named rejection reason for business verification. Test the exact URL you will enter, including any link on it that leads to an error page.
- Edits after submission. Editing business details means verifying again; editing a Meta Verified profile after subscribing can remove the badge.
- Waiting in series. Business verification can run on day 0, in parallel with the 30-day OBA clock and while you already send at 250. Starting it late is the commonest self-inflicted delay in the timeline above.
- Choosing the slow path when a fast one exists. If your Solution Partner has partner-led verification, Meta says partners with the path enabled “should use it as the primary way to scale capabilities on the WhatsApp API”.
- High submission volume. Meta Verified warns it “may take longer in some instances due to high volumes of submissions”. That one you cannot control.
Where Meta’s own pages disagree
Three differences are worth knowing before you plan around a number. First, the quality-messaging path: Meta’s Help Centre scaling page and its OBA request article describe “a minimum of 1,000 conversations over 30 consecutive days”, while the developer messaging limits page, updated 21 May 2026, says 2,000 delivered messages in a 30-day moving period. The two count different things (conversations versus delivered template messages to unique users), and only the developer page carries an update date, so plan on the higher figure, 2,000. Second, OBA eligibility: the Help Centre request article says you need business verification or the quality-messaging record, while the developer page, updated 19 September 2026, requires a verified portfolio. The Help Centre scaling page sides with the developer page: it says an Official Business Account needs “verification using path 1 or 2”, meaning partner-led or Meta business verification, not the quality-messaging path. Third, wording: “14 working days” in the UK English edition of Meta’s help page and “14 business days” in the US English edition describe the same limit.
Frequently asked questions
How long does WhatsApp Business verification take?
It depends which verification you mean. Meta business verification in Meta Business Suite ‘may take up to 14 working days’, and Meta’s WhatsApp scaling page says a decision can come ‘in as little as 10 minutes’. Partner-led verification is usually minutes, up to 24 hours. Meta Verified on the WhatsApp Business app ‘may take up to three business days’. Meta publishes no time for display-name or Official Business Account reviews, as at 26 October 2026.
How long does Meta Verified take on WhatsApp Business?
WhatsApp’s Help Centre says the verification process ‘may take up to three business days, and may take longer in some instances due to high volumes of submissions’. If your business name and WhatsApp profile name do not match and you update the profile name, WhatsApp says that review ‘typically takes about 48 hours’. A newly registered business that cannot be found is told to try again after 4 weeks.
How do I get the blue tick on WhatsApp Business?
On the WhatsApp Business app, the route is a paid Meta Verified for Business subscription, if the Meta Verified option appears under Tools or Settings in your app. On a WhatsApp Business Platform (API) number, the route is an Official Business Account request, which needs a verified business portfolio, an approved display name, two-step verification and at least 30 days on the platform. Neither route guarantees the badge.
Does Meta business verification give me a verified badge?
No. Meta’s Help Centre says verifying your business in Meta Business Suite ‘is different from Meta Verified for businesses and won’t give you a verified badge’. Business verification unlocks features such as a higher WhatsApp messaging limit and more registered numbers; the badge comes from Meta Verified or an Official Business Account.
How long does WhatsApp display name review take?
Meta does not publish a time, as at 26 October 2026. Its developer documentation says the display name ‘automatically undergoes verification’ when you reach a higher messaging limit, and you are told by webhook and a Meta Business Suite notification when it completes. You can send messages before it happens. After an approved name change you have 14 days to re-register the number.
Do I need business verification to use the WhatsApp Business API?
Not to start. Meta says you ‘can begin sending messages to customers immediately’, and a new business portfolio can message 250 unique people per moving 24 hours outside a customer service window. Verification is one of three ways to reach 2,000; the others are partner-led verification and 2,000 delivered high-quality template messages in a 30-day period.
Why was my WhatsApp business verification rejected?
Meta lists four reasons: false or misleading information, claiming a business you are not authorised to represent, trying to get around its review system, and a website that fails to load, is not HTTPS compliant or links to an error message. Meta says you may be eligible to appeal from Security Centre or the platform where you started.
How long does WhatsApp take to approve a catalogue item?
WhatsApp does not publish a time on the catalogue pages we read, as at 26 October 2026. Its catalogue guide says every catalogue image is subject to a review and items are only visible to customers after WhatsApp approves them. A rejected item shows a red exclamation icon and can be sent for another review.
