Australian AI Phone Agents Compared: Who Is Local

Australian AI Phone Agents Compared: Who Is Actually Local

Four of the five Australia-facing AI receptionist vendors compared here are Australian-registered companies. The fifth, Hey Jodie, is JODIE AI LIMITED, incorporated in London on 1 September 2025, and its own privacy policy states it processes personal data in Ireland and the United States. Australian-registered, Australian-hosted and Australian model inference are three separate claims, and only one vendor publishes all three.

Five vendors: Sophiie AI, AiDial, Voxworks, Valory AI and Hey Jodie. Every figure was read on the vendor’s own page on 6 September 2026; every company detail was checked on the Australian Business Register or UK Companies House.

How we scored, and what we deliberately did not score

Disclosure first: we are a vendor in the adjacent category and this sits on our own site, so weigh it accordingly. The five were picked because each markets an AI phone agent to Australian buyers and publishes a price or an entity on its own site; it is a sample, not a ranking of the market. What we control is the method — five dimensions, each with an evidence rule:

  • Legal domicile — the entity named in the vendor’s policy or footer, confirmed on a public register.
  • Storage location — where recordings and transcripts sit at rest.
  • Inference location — where speech recognition and language-model processing run. This is the layer our audit guide to what “Australian hosted” actually means exists to test.
  • Pricing — list price from the vendor’s own pricing page, with the metering unit and currency as shown.
  • Product scope and published assurance — inbound, outbound or both, plus any certification, uptime figure or sub-processor disclosure the vendor puts in writing.

Two refusals. No summariser, directory or review site was used for any vendor fact; summarisers miscount, and that is how a wrong number reaches a table. And we did not mark a receptionist down for not being an outbound sales platform — Sophiie, Hey Jodie and Valory are receptionist-first and scored as such. Where a vendor publishes nothing we write “not published”: a documented gap, not an accusation.

Testing the “Australian” claim, layer by layer

AiDial publishes the most. Its pricing page lists “AI Hosted & Processed in Australia” on every plan and says data “is securely stored in enterprise-grade Australian data centres, with primary facilities located in Sydney, Melbourne, and Canberra.” It reaches the inference layer: its AI compliance page states, “We exclusively use selective Large Language Models (LLMs) hosted in the Australia region that provide a contractual guarantee to never train on your data.” Not published is the level below: no cloud region code, no named model provider, no sub-processor list. The entity is DIGITALON PTY LTD, ABN 64 630 163 469, a Queensland company trading as AiDial since 11 August 2025.

Voxworks states sovereignty as a badge. Its homepage carries four trust panels, among them “Australian Data Sovereignty” and “ISO27001 Certified”. Its voice engine page labels the engine “Sydney” and states, “On Australian mobile networks, we aim for <800ms ‘Voice-to-Voice’ latency.” Two gaps sit behind that: its privacy policy describes storage held “on our behalf by third party data storage providers” without naming a country, and no certificate number, scope or issuing body is published for the ISO 27001 claim. The entity is VOXWORKS TECHNOLOGIES PTY LTD, ABN 14 691 875 153 (NSW).

Valory publishes the clearest split. Its privacy policy states, “Our Service is primarily hosted and operated in Australia,” then qualifies it: providers “may be located in or process personal information from data centres located outside Australia”, naming Twilio, Vapi, OpenAI, ElevenLabs, AWS and Vercel in the United States and the European Union. It states the APP 8 position in its own words — Valory “remain[s] accountable under the Privacy Act if the overseas recipient handles the information in a way that breaches the APPs” — and offers a sub-processor list on request. Its homepage assurance panel claims “AES-256 encryption for data at rest and in transit” and “99.9% Uptime”, with no certification named. That is storage in Australia with inference offshore, disclosed rather than blurred. The entity is EVOLVING TECHNOLOGIES PTY LTD, ABN 72 654 819 128, Queensland.

Sophiie is Australian and quiet on hosting. SOPHIIE AI PTY LTD (ABN 82 679 849 453, Queensland) says on its about page that it was “Founded in 2024 on the Gold Coast”; its homepage reports “750,000+ calls handled by Sophiie” and “1,600+ businesses already on board”. No storage or inference location is published. Its privacy policy says it will not disclose personal information outside Australia unless you consent, the law requires it, or “the disclosure is to service providers who are subject to privacy protections substantially similar to the Australian Privacy Principles and privacy law” — an APP 8.2-shaped carve-out, not a residency guarantee.

Hey Jodie is the outlier. Its privacy policy names JODIE AI LIMITED as controller, applies UK law, and states: “We currently process personal data in Ireland (within the European Economic Area) and in the United States. Both regions are used by default for telephony, AI processing, storage and continuity.” It adds, “We do not offer single-region pinning.” UK Companies House confirms JODIE AI LIMITED, number 16685106, registered at 45 Albemarle Street, London W1S 4JL, incorporated 1 September 2025. The product is built for Australian buyers, but if residency is your filter, this is the finding.

What each one charges, and in which dollars

Metering units are not comparable here. Sophiie and AiDial meter calls; Voxworks and Valory meter minutes; Hey Jodie sells flat-rate unlimited minutes. Our guide to Australian AI phone agent pricing works the conversion.

Vendor Entry plan Included Overage Setup Currency shown
Sophiie AI $99/mo Starter ($0 free tier) 30 calls received, 300 SMS Not published Not published Bare “$”, no currency stated
Hey Jodie A$99/mo Basic Unlimited minutes None — flat rate “no setup fees” A$, “Prices exclude applicable taxes”
AiDial $149/mo Core (receptionist) 60 calls, 60 SMS $2.49 per extra call “Free Setup — Done For You” Bare “$”, no currency stated
Voxworks A$49/mo Starter 60 minutes, 1 number, 2 concurrent A$0.99/min Not published; 14-day free trial A$ on plans, bare “$” on add-ons
Valory AI $149/mo Intro 100 voice minutes, 50 SMS $0.90/min “Setup fee from $990” Bare “$”; AUD in structured data

Top tiers: Sophiie Max $819/mo; Hey Jodie Premium A$399/mo, Enterprise “From A$1,000/month”; AiDial Max $449/mo; Voxworks Pro A$999/mo; Valory Enterprise from $1,299/mo.

One currency note. Three of the five print a bare dollar sign with no currency code and no GST line — Sophiie, AiDial and Valory; only Hey Jodie and Voxworks mark headline prices in A$. The ABN Lookup record for Evolving Technologies Pty Ltd shows “Not currently registered for GST”, consistent with Valory’s page carrying no GST note.

Where Zian sits, and where it does not

Zian AI is not a receptionist. We are an autonomous AI sales-agent platform: agents running live phone, SMS, email and WhatsApp outreach in 30 or more languages, with voice cloning and integrations across HubSpot, Salesforce, HighLevel and Zapier. SmartReach AI™ orchestrates channel, message and timing by country and industry; PrecisionPitch AI™ split-tests scripts against booked outcomes. If your problem is “the phone rings and nobody answers”, every vendor above solves it and we are the wrong tool — see receptionist versus autonomous sales agent.

The operating history is first-party: we have run outbound acquisition since 2017, and the learning engine tracks around 420,000 data points across more than 10,000 leads a day.

Now our own gaps, on the same standard. Zian is in partnership-application beta: no self-serve signup, no published price list. We publish no SOC 2, ISO/IEC 27001 or IRAP assessment, and as at 6 September 2026 no named cloud region or sub-processor list — so on the residency rows above, AiDial and Valory disclose more than we do. We offer private model deployment on customer infrastructure, a different kind of control, and would rather say that than imply a certificate we do not hold.

Frequently asked questions

Which of these vendors is genuinely Australian?

Four of the five are Australian-registered companies confirmed on ABN Lookup: Sophiie AI Pty Ltd, Digitalon Pty Ltd (AiDial), Voxworks Technologies Pty Ltd and Evolving Technologies Pty Ltd (Valory AI). Hey Jodie is Jodie AI Limited, a UK private company incorporated on 1 September 2025 in London, per Companies House. Registration is only the first layer: AiDial is the only one that publishes where model inference runs.

Does an Australian company mean my call data stays in Australia?

No. Valory AI is an Australian company whose own privacy policy names OpenAI, ElevenLabs, Twilio and AWS among providers that may process data outside Australia. On APP 8 of the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner states that “An APP entity that discloses personal information to an overseas recipient is accountable for any acts or practices of the overseas recipient in relation to the information that would breach the APPs (s 16C).” The accountability lands on you, not on an incorporation certificate.

Why do Hey Jodie’s own pages show two different starting prices?

They do. The Hey Jodie pricing page lists Basic at A$99 per month with unlimited minutes. The FAQ on its Australian homepage states, “With Jodie, your first 7 days are completely free. After that it’s A$49/month, which includes unlimited minutes – no per-minute charges, no contracts.” Both read 6 September 2026. We cannot resolve which is current; treat the pricing page as authoritative and ask at checkout.

Which vendor is cheapest for a low-volume business?

On list price, Voxworks Starter at A$49 per month for 60 minutes is the lowest entry point, and Sophiie publishes a $0 free tier that excludes call answering. But the units differ: 60 minutes is roughly 20 three-minute calls, while Hey Jodie’s A$99 covers unlimited minutes. Past roughly 35 answered calls a month, flat-rate generally beats metered — the same crossover logic as in our comparison of human answering services and AI receptionists in Australia.

What should I ask a vendor that claims Australian hosting?

One question separates the field: “For a live call, name the region for the speech-to-text endpoint, the language model endpoint and the text-to-speech endpoint.” Storage questions get confident answers; that one does not. Then ask for the sub-processor list with each provider’s processing country. Valory offers one on request and AiDial states an Australian inference region; the other three publish neither.

Where to go from here

If you need a phone answered, buy from this list — on the residency layer that matters to you, not on a flag icon. If the opposite is your problem, and nobody is making the calls or booking the meetings, that is what we build. Apply For Partnership.
