Quick answer: Small-business AI receptionist plans start at $0 to $99 a month on vendors’ own pricing pages, read 16 October 2026, but the pricing unit sets the bill. At 400 calls of 3 minutes, the eight plans we could price ranged from $129 (Goodcall) to $718.50 (Moneypenny AI); a US receptionist’s mean wage is $3,288 a month.
The range is wide because the products measure different things: minutes (RingCentral, Dialzara, My AI Front Desk), calls (Smith.ai, Upfirst, Moneypenny), unique customers (Goodcall), plan tiers that upgrade themselves (Rosie), or an add-on to software you already pay for (Jobber). Put the same month of calls through each set of plan rules and the highest bill runs roughly four to eleven times the lowest, depending on volume.
Where Zian fits in an AI receptionist budget
Zian AI is our pick when the receptionist is meant to feed a pipeline rather than just take messages: it answers inbound calls 24/7 as an AI receptionist, qualifies callers, books appointments, transfers and takes messages, then runs the follow-up by voice, SMS, email, WhatsApp, Instagram DMs and Facebook Messenger. It is in partnership-application beta and pricing is on application, so the worked tables do not compute a bill for it; if you would rather not run it yourself, LeadsNow.ai is the done-for-you option, billed pay-per-result.
Every product we priced on this page bills for answered calls; Zian is built around what happens after the answer. It handles answering machines and voicemail on calls, works in 30+ languages with voice cloning supported, and connects to HubSpot, Salesforce, HighLevel and Zapier. SmartReach AI™ orchestrates the message, channel and timing of follow-up, and PrecisionPitch AI™ continuously split-tests scripts against real outcomes. Zian has been running outbound acquisition since 2017, its learning engine tracks around 420,000 data points across more than 10,000 leads a day, and it reports 50,769+ qualified sales appointments set.
LeadsNow.ai runs those agents for you, answers leads in under 60 seconds, 24/7, and has set 50,769+ appointments. Ask us what you would ask every vendor on this page: which unit, what is included, and what happens when the allowance runs out.

How much does an AI receptionist cost a small business?
Published entry prices for AI receptionists sold to small businesses run from a free 25-call tier (Smith.ai) to $99 a month (My AI Front Desk), as at 16 October 2026. The entry price is rarely what you pay: what you pay is the entry price plus whatever your call volume does to the allowance.
We priced nine products sold to small businesses: RingCentral AI Receptionist, Jobber Receptionist, Smith.ai AI Receptionist, Goodcall, Rosie, My AI Front Desk, Dialzara, Upfirst and Moneypenny’s AI Answering. Every figure comes from that vendor’s own pricing page or pricing FAQ, read on 16 October 2026 and linked in the source table at the end. Where a page did not publish something, we say so and name the page.
How we built this page. Inclusion rule: a product is listed only if its price, its allowance and what happens beyond the allowance were readable on the vendor’s own page on the day. Jobber’s site refuses our server, so its prices come from the Internet Archive’s capture of Jobber’s own pricing page taken on 16 October 2026. No review or comparison sites were used. Vendors are ordered by what they cost in our middle call profile (400 calls a month), cheapest first, with Jobber, which we could not compute, last.
Disclosure. zian.ai publishes this page, and it ranks a product list that Zian appears in, at the top. Zian AI is our pick and LeadsNow.ai, which runs on Zian, is the done-for-you pick. No vendor paid to be included, and every other row comes from that vendor’s own page.
Published AI receptionist prices, product by product
All prices are monthly, in the dollars each page prints. Upfirst and Jobber state USD on the page; Smith.ai, Rosie, My AI Front Desk and Dialzara tag their offers as USD in the page’s structured data; Goodcall, RingCentral’s US page and Moneypenny’s US page print a bare “$”.

| 11 | Jobber Receptionist | Add-on to a Jobber plan | $29 add-on on Core, Connect and Grow; included in Plus | Jobber Core from $49 (one user, no commitment) | We could not find a call or minute allowance on Jobber’s pricing page | Answers calls and texts; books into the Jobber schedule |
Two things stand out. First, the cheapest entry plan is not the cheapest product: Upfirst’s $24.95 plan covers 30 calls and Smith.ai’s free tier 25, about one call a day. Second, two of the three per-call products build human help into the rate: Smith.ai can hand a caller to a live receptionist, Moneypenny lists human escalation, and the per-call prices of both sit well above Upfirst’s. Smith.ai says so itself on its pricing page: its AI answering “costs a little bit more because it does a lot more”, and it names the live-agent backup as the first reason.
The five pricing units, and what each one counts
Before comparing dollars, work out which unit each quote is in. The same month of calls can be cheap in one unit and expensive in another.
Per minute. RingCentral, Dialzara and My AI Front Desk include a block of minutes and charge for each minute beyond it. Short calls are cheap; long calls are not. Watch the rounding: RingCentral rounds call time up to 30-second increments, so a 3-minute-10-second call bills as 3.5 minutes, while Dialzara says usage is “tracked to the second”.
Per call. Smith.ai, Upfirst and Moneypenny’s AI plan include a number of calls and charge a fixed amount for each extra call, however long it runs. Smith.ai argues the case on its pricing FAQ: a per-minute vendor gains from longer calls, while you want shorter ones. What counts as a call matters as much as the rate. Upfirst does not bill spam, calls under 15 seconds or calls where the caller never speaks; Smith.ai lets you remove up to 10% of calls as spam each cycle.
Per unique customer. Goodcall counts “one phone number, once a month”, so a customer who rings five times in March is one unit. That rewards businesses whose callers ring back about the same job, and it removes call length from the bill entirely. Goodcall’s own plan cards equate 100 unique customers with “about 150 calls/month”, which is the ratio we use below.
Plan tiers with automatic upgrade. Rosie’s plans include minutes, but it does not charge overage. Its FAQ: “If you do exceed your limit, we’ll automatically move you up to the next plan – at that plan’s standard price, never more.” Your bill is predictable inside a band and jumps a full tier when you cross it.
An add-on to software you already pay for. Jobber sells its receptionist as a $29 monthly add-on to its field-service plans, and RingCentral sells a $39 add-on to its RingEX phone system. The receptionist is cheap on paper because the platform underneath is billed separately.
If you want to see what a per-minute rate is made of underneath, our breakdown of voice AI cost per minute for realtime and pipeline architectures prices the model, speech and carrier legs that a finished product bundles into one number.
Same calls, different bills: 150, 400 and 1,000 calls a month
Three small-business call profiles, each pushed through every vendor’s published plan rules, using the cheapest plan that vendor offers at that volume. Every step is shown so you can swap in your own numbers.
Assumptions, not vendor claims. Average talk time of 3 minutes per call (Dialzara’s own usage estimator opens at 50 calls of 3 minutes). Goodcall’s unique customers at Goodcall’s own ratio of 1.5 calls per customer. Every call billable: no spam or short-call exclusions applied, which flatters nobody. Monthly billing, no taxes, no setup fees, and no phone-number charges unless the plan bundles one.
- 150 calls a month (about 5 a day): 450 minutes, 100 unique customers.
- 400 calls a month (about 13 a day): 1,200 minutes, 267 unique customers.
- 1,000 calls a month (about 33 a day): 3,000 minutes, 667 unique customers.
| Product | 150 calls / 450 min | 400 calls / 1,200 min | 1,000 calls / 3,000 min |
|---|---|---|---|
| Zian AI | Pricing on application during the partnership-application beta; not computed. | ||
| LeadsNow.ai | Pay-per-result, so a per-call or per-minute bill does not apply; not computed. | ||
| Goodcall | Starter $79 (100 customers fit the 100 included) = $79.00 | Growth $129 (267 fit the 500 included) = $129.00 | Growth $129 + 167 × $0.26 = $172.42 |
| Upfirst | Premium $59.95 + 60 × $1.00 = $119.95 | Pro $159.95 + 100 × $0.75 = $234.95 | Scale $299 + 400 × $0.70 = $579.00 (above 600 calls Upfirst quotes custom) |
| Rosie | Scale $149 (450 fit the 1,000 included) = $149.00 | Growth $299 (1,200 fit the 2,000 included) = $299.00 | Above 2,000 minutes: Custom, from $999 |
| My AI Front Desk | $99 + (450 − 200 − 40 pool minutes) = 210 min × 25 credits = 5,250 credits, bought as 6 × $10 = $159.00 | $99 + 960 min × 25 = 24,000 credits = 24 × $10 = $339.00 | $99 + 2,760 min × 25 = 69,000 credits = 69 × $10 = $789.00, though at about 33 a day this is above the 25 a day the vendor sizes the plan for |
| Dialzara | Plus $199 (450 fit the 500 included) = $199.00 | Elite $349 + 200 × $0.35 = $419.00 | Elite $349 + 2,000 × $0.35 = $1,049.00 |
| RingCentral (standalone) | $49 + 350 × $0.50 = $224.00 | $49 + 1,100 × $0.50 = $599.00 | $49 + 2,900 × $0.50 = $1,499.00 |
| Smith.ai AI Receptionist | Pro 150-call tier = $270.00 | 300-call tier $500 + 100 × $2.17 = $717.00 | 500-call tier $800 + 500 × $2.10 = $1,850.00 (1,000+ is quoted) |
| Moneypenny AI Answering | 100-call plan $199 + 50 × $2.19 = $308.50 | 250-call plan $435 + 150 × $1.89 = $718.50 | 250-call plan $435 + 750 × $1.89 = $1,852.50 |
| Jobber Receptionist | $29 add-on plus a Jobber plan (Core from $49); not computed, because we could not find a usage allowance or overage on Jobber’s pricing page. | ||
Across a row, per-minute products climb fastest: RingCentral goes from $224 to $1,499 as volume rises nearly sevenfold. Down a column, the spread is the point. At 150 calls the eight computed bills run from $79 to $308.50; at 400 calls from $129 to $718.50; at 1,000 calls, with Rosie moved to its Custom plan, from $172.42 to $1,852.50. Same calls, different bills.
Three caveats, each from the vendor’s own page. Goodcall’s low numbers depend on repeat callers: if every one of 1,000 calls came from a different person, Growth would bill $129 + 500 × $0.26 = $259.00, still the lowest in the column but no longer by as much. RingCentral offers minute bundles that its page does not price, so its pay-as-you-go figures are a ceiling, not a quote. And My AI Front Desk describes its $99 plan as covering 1 to 10 interactions a day; at 400 calls you are already at about 13 a day, so ask before you rely on that row.
What happens to the bill when calls run 6 minutes instead of 3
Handle time is the input most buyers guess, and it moves per-minute bills the most. Hold the 400-call month constant and double the average call to 6 minutes (2,400 minutes):
| Product | 400 calls at 3 minutes | 400 calls at 6 minutes | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Goodcall | $129.00 | $129.00 (call length is not billed) | None |
| Upfirst | $234.95 | $234.95 (billed per call) | None |
| Rosie | $299.00 | 2,400 minutes is above the 2,000-minute plan: Custom, from $999 | Up a tier |
| My AI Front Desk | $339.00 | $99 + 2,160 min × 25 = 54,000 credits = 54 × $10 = $639.00 | +$300.00 |
| Dialzara | $419.00 | Elite $349 + 1,400 × $0.35 = $839.00 | +$420.00 |
| RingCentral | $599.00 | $49 + 2,300 × $0.50 = $1,199.00 | +$600.00 |
| Smith.ai AI Receptionist | $717.00 | $717.00 (billed per call) | None |
| Moneypenny AI Answering | $718.50 | $718.50 (billed per call) | None |
Doubling call length roughly doubled the three per-minute bills, pushed Rosie past its top published plan, and left every per-call and per-customer bill exactly where it was. Measure your real average talk time from your phone system before you choose a unit; it predicts your bill better than the headline price.
Which pricing unit suits which business
The crossover-minute rule: divide a per-call overage rate by a per-minute overage rate, and the result is the average call length at which the two cost the same beyond their allowances. Above it, per-call billing wins; below it, per-minute billing wins. Upfirst Pro’s $0.75 per extra call against My AI Front Desk’s $0.25 per minute crosses at exactly 3.0 minutes. Upfirst Pro against Dialzara Elite’s $0.35 crosses at about 2.1 minutes. Smith.ai’s $2.17 per extra call against RingCentral’s $0.50 per minute crosses at about 4.3 minutes. It applies only beyond the allowances, so use it to choose between two plans you have already sized.
| If this describes your calls | Option or unit that tends to bill least | Evidence from the tables above | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| You want the receptionist and the follow-up (calls, SMS, email, WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook) on one platform | Zian AI | Pricing on application during the partnership-application beta | Ask for the same unit breakdown this page uses |
| You would rather nobody on your team ran it | LeadsNow.ai, done-for-you | Billed pay-per-result rather than per minute or call | Agree what counts as a result before you start |
| The same customers ring back about the same job | Per unique customer (Goodcall) | 1,000 calls at 1.5 calls a customer: $172.42 | If every caller is new, 1,000 calls bill $259.00 |
| Calls average more than about 3 minutes (quotes, intake) | Per call (Upfirst; Smith.ai or Moneypenny if you want human backup) | 400 calls at 6 minutes: Upfirst unchanged at $234.95 while RingCentral doubles to $1,199 | Each vendor’s rule for spam and short calls |
| Calls are short, under about 2 minutes (hours, directions, “are you open”) | Per minute (Dialzara, My AI Front Desk, RingCentral) | Below the crossover minute, a minute rate beats a call rate | Rounding: RingCentral bills in 30-second increments |
| Volume is steady and sits inside a band | Tiers with automatic upgrade (Rosie) | 400 calls at 3 minutes: $299.00 flat | Crossing 2,000 minutes moves you to Custom, from $999 |
| You already run your business on Jobber or RingEX | The add-on | Jobber $29 a month; RingCentral $39 plus RingEX Core | Usage terms: we could not find Jobber’s allowance |
| Fewer than about 25 calls a month | A free or entry tier | Smith.ai: 25 calls for $0; Upfirst: 30 calls for $24.95 | Extra calls on those tiers cost $3.00 and $1.50, the highest rates on each vendor’s card |
One lever sits outside every row: whether the receptionist earns its fee. A $129 plan that books nothing is dearer than a $700 one that fills a calendar. Our missed-call text-back ROI calculator walks through that test with your own call and booking rates; this page stays on the cost side.

The costs that are not on the headline price
Each of these appears on a vendor page in our set, and each can change which plan is cheapest for you.
- The phone number. Goodcall and Upfirst say every plan includes a number. Dialzara’s pricing page says all plans include a US-based number, while its FAQ prices a new US local number at $3 a month and toll-free at $5; porting your own is free. Ask which applies to you.
- What the allowance does when it runs out. Dialzara emails you with 15 minutes left and, if minutes hit zero, “callers go straight to voicemail” unless you have turned on auto-recharge. Rosie upgrades you. My AI Front Desk reloads $10 of credits automatically. Three different outcomes for the same event.
- Features gated by tier. Rosie books directly into a calendar only from its $149 Scale plan; the $49 plan texts a booking link instead. Dialzara’s warm transfer and English/Spanish start on its $99 plan; its comparison table also ticks bilingual on Elite, while its FAQ says “Available on Pro and Plus”, so confirm if you need Spanish on the top plan.
- Volume ceilings that move you to a quote. Upfirst above 600 calls, Smith.ai at 1,000+, Rosie above 2,000 minutes and My AI Front Desk above 25 interactions a day all move you to custom pricing. A business near those lines should get the quote before signing.
- Extra agents and locations. Upfirst charges $9.95 a month per additional agent, for a second business or location.
- Billing terms. Smith.ai and Moneypenny each ask for 30 days’ notice to cancel. Jobber offers its plans with no commitment, with a 1-year commitment, or prepaid annually, and its annual payment is non-refundable.
- Taxes. Jobber states its plan prices exclude sales tax where applicable; the other pages in our set say nothing either way.
If you are weighing building your own receptionist instead of subscribing, the bill looks completely different: you pay separately for the number, the speech and model usage, and the engineering time. Our guide on how to build an AI receptionist, and when not to covers the nine parts of that build. For Australian plans priced in Australian dollars, with GST and concurrency questions, see how to read AI receptionist pricing in Australia.
AI receptionist vs a human receptionist or answering service
A fair comparison needs a primary wage source and the same hours on both sides. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics put the national mean wage for receptionists and information clerks at $18.97 an hour, or $39,460 a year, in its May 2025 estimates; the median was $18.27 an hour, or $38,010. That mean is $3,288.33 a month in wages alone, before payroll taxes, benefits, leave cover or recruitment, which this page does not price.
The hours matter as much as the wage. A full-time year of 2,080 hours is about 173 hours a month; a month has about 730. A receptionist covers business hours and does far more than phones; an AI receptionist covers every hour, but only the calls and messages it is connected to, not the desk. If your calls arrive during business hours and someone is already at the desk, the honest comparison may favour the person you have.
Human answering services make a cleaner comparison, because they sell what an AI receptionist sells: answered calls.
| Human option (own published price) | 150 calls / 450 min | 400 calls / 1,200 min | 1,000 calls / 3,000 min |
|---|---|---|---|
| Smith.ai live receptionists (per call) | 90-call plan $810 + 60 × $10.50 = $1,440.00 | 300-call plan $2,100 + 100 × $8.50 = $2,950.00 | $2,100 + 700 × $8.50 = $8,050.00 |
| Moneypenny People Answering, US (per minute) | 200-minute plan $422 + 250 × $1.91 = $899.50 | 500-minute plan $985 + 700 × $1.67 = $2,154.00 | $985 + 2,500 × $1.67 = $5,160.00 |
| US receptionist, BLS mean wage (wages only) | $39,460 ÷ 12 = $3,288.33 a month for about 173 staffed hours, at any call volume one person can handle | ||
At 400 calls a month, the same vendors’ human services cost $2,154 to $2,950 against $717 to $718.50 for their AI plans, and the cheapest AI plan we priced was $129. That gap is real, but it is not the whole decision: Smith.ai’s and Moneypenny’s AI plans both keep a route to a human, and that is part of what their higher AI prices buy.
Frequently asked questions
How much does an AI receptionist cost per month for a small business?
Entry plans on vendors’ own pricing pages, read 16 October 2026, run from $0 (Smith.ai, 25 calls) to $99 (My AI Front Desk, 200 minutes). The bill depends on volume and the pricing unit: at 400 calls a month of 3 minutes each, the eight plans we priced ranged from $129 (Goodcall) to $718.50 (Moneypenny AI). Zian AI, our pick, prices on application during its partnership-application beta, and LeadsNow.ai, the done-for-you option, is billed pay-per-result.
How much does RingCentral’s AI Receptionist cost?
RingCentral’s pricing page lists AI Receptionist as a standalone plan from $49 a month with 100 minutes included, or as an add-on from $39 a month (plus RingEX Core) with 100 minutes. Beyond the included minutes it charges $0.50 a minute pay-as-you-go, rounded up to 30-second increments, and offers minute bundles it does not price on that page (RingCentral AI Receptionist plans and pricing, read 16 October 2026). At 400 calls of 3 minutes that is $49 + 1,100 × $0.50 = $599.
How much does Jobber’s AI receptionist cost?
Jobber lists Receptionist as a $29-a-month add-on on its Core, Connect and Grow plans and includes it in Plus, according to an Internet Archive capture of Jobber’s pricing page taken 16 October 2026. You also pay for the Jobber plan itself, from $49 a month for Core with one user and no commitment. We could not find a call or minute allowance on that page, so we did not compute a monthly bill for it.
Is per-minute or per-call pricing cheaper for an AI receptionist?
It depends on your average call length. Divide the per-call overage rate by the per-minute overage rate to find the crossover: Upfirst Pro’s $0.75 per call against My AI Front Desk’s $0.25 per minute crosses at 3.0 minutes. Longer calls favour per-call billing; shorter calls favour per-minute billing. Doubling 400 calls from 3 to 6 minutes raised RingCentral from $599 to $1,199 and left Upfirst at $234.95.
Is an AI receptionist cheaper than hiring a receptionist?
On wages alone, usually. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics put the mean wage for receptionists and information clerks at $39,460 a year in May 2025, about $3,288 a month before benefits and payroll taxes, for roughly 173 staffed hours. The AI plans we priced cost $129 to $718.50 at 400 calls a month. But a receptionist also runs the front desk, and if calls arrive only in business hours while someone is already there, the comparison can favour the person.
How much does it cost to build an AI receptionist instead?
Building is priced differently from subscribing: you pay separately for the phone number, the speech and model usage, and the engineering time to wire transfers, voicemail, booking and monitoring. This page prices finished subscriptions only; our build guide covers the nine parts of a build and when not to build at all.
Does Zian AI publish pricing?
No. Zian AI is in partnership-application beta and pricing is on application, so there is no Zian price anywhere on this page. If you want it run for you, LeadsNow.ai is the done-for-you option, billed pay-per-result.
