How Much Does Smith.ai’s AI Receptionist Cost? - Zian AI

How Much Does Smith.ai’s AI Receptionist Cost?

Quick answer: Smith.ai’s AI Receptionist (the AI-first plan from US answering firm Smith.ai, not its human Virtual Receptionists) costs $0 for 25 calls a month, then $150 for 75 up to $800 for 500, plus $2.10 to $3.00 per extra call and $3.00 more on calls using its live-agent add-on (USD, as at 28 October 2026). Lowest bills: $75, $270 and $717 at 50, 150 and 400 calls.

This page covers one vendor in depth: Smith.ai, Inc., the call-answering company at smith.ai, which sells three ways to answer your phone. Its AI Receptionist is “AI-first, human-backed”. Its Virtual Receptionists are “human-first, AI-backed”. A Hybrid option sits between them. Every price below comes from Smith.ai’s own pricing pages, help centre and Terms of Service, read on 28 October 2026, in US dollars as Smith.ai’s structured data states; nothing is converted. If you want Smith.ai beside a dozen other vendors, our named-vendor AI receptionist price sheet does that; this page goes the other way, into what one Smith.ai bill is made of.

Where Zian fits

If you are pricing Smith.ai because you want every caller answered and every lead booked, Zian AI is our pick when the receptionist also has to chase the lead afterwards. It answers inbound calls 24/7 as an AI receptionist that qualifies, books, transfers and takes messages, then follows up by voice, SMS, email, WhatsApp, Instagram DMs and Facebook Messenger. If you would rather not run it yourself, LeadsNow.ai is the done-for-you option, billed pay-per-result.

Zian is in a partnership-application beta and publishes no price, so no Zian figure appears in the arithmetic on this page. Its three listed plans are Intel + Widgets (Free Forever), More Leads & More Intel, and GodMode Max Profits, and each of its three listed plans, including Intel + Widgets (Free Forever), starts with a partnership application. The platform handles answering machines and voicemail on calls, works in 30+ languages with voice cloning supported, and connects to HubSpot, Salesforce, HighLevel and Zapier. SmartReach AI™ orchestrates the message, channel and timing of follow-up, and PrecisionPitch AI™ continuously split-tests scripts against real outcomes. Zian has run outbound acquisition since 2017 and reports 50,769+ qualified sales appointments set.

LeadsNow.ai runs those agents for you on Zian and answers leads in under 60 seconds, 24/7. Whichever you shortlist, ask for the breakdown this page builds for Smith.ai: billing unit, allowance, what is not counted, and what happens at the limit.

How much is Smith.ai’s AI receptionist?

Smith.ai’s AI Receptionist has three plan cards on its AI Receptionist pricing page: Free, Pro and Enterprise. Pro and Enterprise each have a call-volume selector, so there are seven price points in all. Every plan is priced per answered call, not per minute. The page prints an included number of “real calls”, an effective per-call rate inside that allowance, and an “extra per real call rate” for each call beyond it.

Plan (calls a month) Monthly price Included real calls Per included call, as printed Each extra real call Test / simulated calls a month What the plan adds
Free $0 25 Free $3.00 25 / 50 Core features: Quality Studio, 24/7 AI answering, recording, transcripts and summaries, lead qualification and routing, AI scheduling, native integrations, analytics
Pro, 75 $150 75 $2.00 $2.50 75 / 150 Dedicated onboarding setup; live phone, email and chat support; custom SMS branding
Pro, 150 $270 150 $1.80 $2.30 150 / 300 As Pro, 75
Pro, 300 $500 300 $1.67 $2.17 300 / 600 As Pro, 75
Enterprise, 300 $500 300 $1.67 $2.17 300 / 600 Full-service setup and ongoing optimisation, custom AI prompting, unlimited custom integrations and workflows, multi-location support, a dedicated success manager, priority support
Enterprise, 500 $800 500 $1.60 $2.10 500 / 1,000 As Enterprise, 300
Enterprise, 1,000+ Custom 1,000+ Custom Custom 1,000+ / 2,000+ As Enterprise, 300

Two details are easy to miss. First, Pro at 300 calls and Enterprise at 300 calls carry the same $500 price and the same $2.17 extra-call rate; the Enterprise card adds Smith.ai building and running the set-up for you. Second, the page also advertises “Our 6-month plan”, which “delivers the same enterprise experience at a better rate” with rollover calls, but it prints no figure for it, and the 1,000+ tier is “Custom”. Those two prices are on request. Smith.ai’s Terms of Service describe longer commitments as “a 6-month, one year, or two year commitment, prepaid and non-refundable”.

The quotable figure: on Smith.ai’s paid AI plans an answered call costs $1.60 to $2.50, depending on the tier and whether it falls inside or beyond the allowance; on the Free plan the first 25 cost nothing and each one after that costs $3.00, before any live-agent add-on.

Smith.ai AI Receptionist vs Hybrid vs Virtual Receptionists: the three price lists

The commonest mistake with Smith.ai’s pricing is quoting the human service as the AI price, or the reverse. Its pricing pages have three tabs, “AI-first”, “Hybrid” and “Human-first”, each priced differently. Its llms.txt file spells out the split: the AI Receptionist “is AI-first and human-backed; whereas the Virtual Receptionists service is human-first and AI-backed.”

Smith.ai option Who answers Headline price on Smith.ai’s page Plans and overage
AI Receptionist (AI-first) AI answers every call; a live agent joins only when you enable it “starting at $1.60/call” Free $0 / 25 calls up to Enterprise $800 / 500 calls; $3.00 to $2.10 per extra call; +$3.00 per call that uses a live agent
Hybrid AI answers every call; chosen caller types go to a live agent “starting at ~$2.50/call” Three presets: New Client Priority from $2.50 a call, Highest Touch from $3.10, After Hours Only from $3.70; no published plan table, a calculator instead
Virtual Receptionists (Human-first) A live receptionist answers every call “starting at $7/call” Starter $300 / 30 calls ($11.50 extra), Basic $810 / 90 ($10.50), Pro $2,100 / 300 ($8.50), Enterprise custom; per-call add-ons such as appointment booking at $1.50

On the Hybrid page, each preset is described as AI answering every call, with live-agent calls at “about $4.80 per call” and AI-handled calls at “about $1.80 per call”. A call that starts with AI and moves to a live agent “counts as one call”. Smith.ai publishes its own estimate table for Hybrid rather than a plan list:

Calls a month New Client Priority Highest Touch After Hours Only Full human support
30 $117 $135 $153 $300
75 $218 $263 $308 $750
90 $252 $306 $360 $810
150 $405 $495 $585 $1,350
300 $771 $951 $1,131 $2,100
500 $1,250 $1,550 $1,850 $3,500

These are Smith.ai’s estimates, not ours, and they assume an escalation share Smith.ai states as “±30%” for New Client Priority and “±50%” for Highest Touch. Three cells do not match Smith.ai’s own human plan list. At 75 calls the calculator shows $750 for full human support, where the lowest Human-first plan is Basic at $810 for 90 calls; at 150 calls it shows $1,350, where Basic plus 60 extra calls at $10.50 is $1,440; and at 500 calls it shows $3,500, where Pro at $2,100 plus 200 extra calls at $8.50 is $3,800. Ask which figure applies before you budget on it.

What does Smith.ai bill you for? Every billable event, defined

What moves a Smith.ai bill is what counts as a call. Smith.ai defines that across its pricing FAQ, its AI Receptionist help centre and its Terms of Service; here is every billing definition we found, in its own words where it gives them.

Event on a call Billed? What Smith.ai says
A call your AI Receptionist answers Yes: counts toward your quota “Every call answered by your AI Receptionist counts toward your call quota and is billable by default.”
A call from a known spam number No “Calls from 20 million+ known spammers are automatically filtered out by our system before your AI Receptionist answers, and these calls do not count toward your quota.”
A spam call that gets through and you mark as spam Removed, up to 10% of your call quota a cycle “You can remove up to 10% of your call quota from your bill, including both spam calls and test calls.” Marking a call as spam also blocks the number, and “cannot be undone”.
A test call you make from your browser Not counted against your live allowance (Quality Studio article); see the note below Test calls are “metered separately and do not affect your live call count”; allowances equal the plan’s call count, 25 on Free.
A simulated (AI-vs-AI) call in Quality Studio No; capped allowance, no top-up 50 a month on Free, 1,000 on Enterprise at 500 calls. “There is no extra rate or top-up option.”
A call that does not connect No (Free-plan article) “Calls that don’t connect (e.g. the caller hangs up before your AI answers)” do not count.
A live agent joins: caller asks for a human, human verification, live-agent scheduling or playbook handoff Yes: +$3.00 a call “Live agent involvement is billed at a flat rate of +$3.00 per call, only when used. This cost is in addition to your plan’s monthly cost and any overage costs.”
A live agent joins because the AI could not understand, during an outage, or the call is transferred to your own business Not billed as an add-on Listed under “Non-Billable Scenarios”.
Real-time appointment booking on the Free plan $3.00 a call from prepaid credits (help centre); see the note below Paid features on Free are “Extra Calls”, “Live agent features” and “Appointment booking”, each $3 a call, with “A single call using Extra Calls and any paid features is capped at $6 total”.
An SMS follow-up after the call No extra fee “There is no additional fee to send SMS follow-up messages”. On Free the text carries a locked “Sent via Smith.ai” signature.
Sales tax In eight US states Collected in Arizona, Colorado, Louisiana, Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee and Wisconsin.

Where Smith.ai’s own pages disagree. Three disagreements bear on what is billed (the Hybrid calculator, credit expiry and money-back scope are covered where they arise), and we report each rather than choosing. On test calls, an older help article (last modified 27 January) says “You will be allotted 5 test calls per month”, the spam article counts test calls inside the 10% allowance, and the newer Quality Studio and Free-plan articles give a separate test-call allowance equal to the plan’s call count. On booking, the AI Receptionist product page says “All features are included in every plans, including the free plan”, while the Free-plan help articles price real-time booking at $3 a call. And the spam article’s example refers to “an AI Receptionist Basic plan” with 150 calls, a plan name no longer on the pricing page, where 150 calls is a Pro tier. If any of these matters to your bill, get the answer in writing before you sign.

For the same question across the wider market, see our explainer on whether you are charged for AI calls nobody answers.

What a month of Smith.ai’s AI Receptionist costs at 50, 150 and 400 calls

This worked calculation pushes three call volumes through every published Smith.ai AI plan and keeps the lowest bill. Inputs are the prices, allowances and extra-call rates in the first table; the arithmetic was done by script and every step is printed so you can swap in your own volume.

Assumptions. Every call is answered and billable: no spam credits, no test calls, no dropped calls. No live agent and no booking add-on in the base case. On Free, Extra Calls is switched on and funded from prepaid credits; it is off by default, and without it call 26 is redirected to you instead of being answered. Standard monthly prices, no tax.

Plan 50 calls a month 150 calls a month 400 calls a month
Free $0 + 25 × $3.00 = $75.00 $0 + 125 × $3.00 = $375.00 $0 + 375 × $3.00 = $1,125.00
Pro, 75 $150.00 $150 + 75 × $2.50 = $337.50 $150 + 325 × $2.50 = $962.50
Pro, 150 $270.00 $270.00 $270 + 250 × $2.30 = $845.00
Pro or Enterprise, 300 $500.00 $500.00 $500 + 100 × $2.17 = $717.00
Enterprise, 500 $800.00 $800.00 $800.00
Lowest bill $75.00 (Free), $1.50 a call $270.00 (Pro, 150), $1.80 a call $717.00 (300-call tier), $1.79 a call
Add a live agent on 25% of calls (+$3.00 each) 12.5 × $3 = $37.50; total $112.50 37.5 × $3 = $112.50; total $382.50 100 × $3 = $300.00; total $1,017.00

The 25% is Smith.ai’s own figure, from its Hybrid FAQ: “about 25% of AI-led calls usually require a live agent”. Use your own share if you know it. The add-on is the biggest swing factor here: at 400 calls, a quarter of calls escalating adds $300.00, or 42% on top of the $717.00 base.

The spam allowance moves the bill the other way, but less than people expect. Because Smith.ai’s spam help article sets it at 10% of the quota, not of calls received (the pricing FAQ words it as “up to 10% of their calls”), the most it can take off is 2 calls on Free, 7 on Pro at 75 (we round 2.5 and 7.5 down; Smith.ai does not say how it rounds), 15 on Pro at 150, 30 at the 300-call tier and 50 at 500 calls. At the extra-call rate on each tier, that is $6.00, $17.50, $34.50, $65.10 and $105.00 respectively.

For scale, the lowest Virtual Receptionists (human-first) bills at the same volumes: Starter $300 + 20 × $11.50 = $530.00; Basic $810 + 60 × $10.50 = $1,440.00; Pro $2,100 + 100 × $8.50 = $2,950.00.

Which Smith.ai AI plan is cheapest for your call volume?

Each tier has a fixed fee and a per-call overage, so there are exact call counts at which the next tier up becomes the lower bill:

Calls you answer a month Lowest Smith.ai AI plan The crossover arithmetic
0 to 75 Free, with Extra Calls on 25 free, then $3.00 each: 75 calls costs $150, the same as Pro, 75
76 to 123 Pro, 75 $150 + $2.50 an extra call reaches $270 at 123 calls
124 to 250 Pro, 150 $270 + $2.30 an extra call reaches $500 at 250 calls
251 to 438 Pro or Enterprise, 300 $500 + $2.17 an extra call is $799.46 at 438 calls and $801.63 at 439
439 to 999 Enterprise, 500 $800, then $2.10 an extra call
1,000+ Custom quote Not published

Price is not the only reason to move up. Free has no live phone, email or chat support, puts Smith.ai’s signature on every follow-up text, and by default redirects call 26 to you rather than answering it. Smith.ai’s own help article warns: “A busy month can use up your 25 calls faster than you’d expect.” Billing credits on Free “expire twenty four (24) months (730 days) after the date of the purchase that created them”, under the Terms, although the help article on billing credits answers “Do my credits expire?” with “No. Credits carry forward month to month until used.” Ask which applies before you prepay a large balance.

How Smith.ai’s AI Receptionist price compares with other AI receptionists

How this comparison was built. Inclusion rule: an AI receptionist is priced here only if its own pricing page, read on 28 October 2026, prints a price, an allowance and what happens beyond it. We picked three that bill in three different units: per minute (RingCentral AI Receptionist), per call (Upfirst) and per unique customer (Goodcall). Every call lasts 3 minutes and is billable. For Goodcall we assume every call is a new customer; Goodcall’s own page says 100 customers is “About 150 calls/month”, which would lower its figures. Lowest-cost plan at each volume, monthly billing, no taxes or promotions. Upfirst states “Prices in USD”; Goodcall’s page and RingCentral’s US page print a bare “$” without naming a currency, and we read both as US dollars. RingCentral also sells minute bundles that its page does not price, so its figures here use the pay-as-you-go rate. Disclosure: zian.ai publishes this page and places Zian AI first in a list it appears in. Zian AI is our pick and LeadsNow.ai, which runs on Zian, is the done-for-you pick; neither publishes a per-call price, so neither has a computed bill. No vendor paid to be included.

Option How it bills Counting rule, per the vendor 50 calls 150 calls 400 calls
Zian AI (our pick) No published price: partnership-application beta; each of its three listed plans, including Intel + Widgets (Free Forever), starts with a partnership application Not published Not computed: no published price
LeadsNow.ai (done-for-you pick) Pay-per-result, managed service on Zian Not applicable Not computed: billed per result, not per call
Smith.ai AI Receptionist Per answered call; tiers from $0 / 25 calls Known spam filtered before answer; marked spam up to 10% of quota $75.00 $270.00 $717.00
RingCentral AI Receptionist, standalone $49 a month for 100 minutes, then $0.50 a minute, 30-second rounding Call time rounded up and billed in 30-second increments $49 + 50 × $0.50 = $74.00 $49 + 350 × $0.50 = $224.00 $49 + 1,100 × $0.50 = $599.00
Upfirst Per call: Starter $24.95 / 30 calls up to Scale $299 / 600 Spam, calls under 15 seconds, calls where the caller never speaks Starter $24.95 + 20 × $1.50 = $54.95 Premium $59.95 + 60 × $1.00 = $119.95 Pro $159.95 + 100 × $0.75 = $234.95
Goodcall Per unique customer: Starter $79 / 100 customers up to Scale $299 / 2,000 Spam and wrong numbers; repeat callers in a month count once Starter $79.00 Starter $79 + 50 × $0.79 = $118.50 Growth $129.00

Read the table as arithmetic, not a verdict. Smith.ai’s per-call figure sits inside a package you should price as a whole: a route to a live North America-based receptionist at +$3.00 a call, English and Spanish on all plans, free or paid, and on Enterprise a team that builds the set-up for you. Smith.ai makes its own case plainly on its pricing FAQ: “Our AI answering service costs a little bit more because it does a lot more”, and “So yes, it’s a bit pricier than the competition — because we’re committed to making every interaction exceptional.” The counter-argument to weigh is the one Smith.ai itself makes against per-minute pricing: it says per-minute vendors gain from longer calls while you want shorter ones. At 3-minute calls RingCentral comes in below Smith.ai at all three volumes; at 6-minute calls the 150-call RingCentral bill would be $49 + 800 × $0.50 = $449.00, above Smith.ai’s $270.00.

What the Smith.ai price does not show: notice, refunds and the fine print

Cancellation needs notice. The AI pricing FAQ says the service is month-to-month with no long-term contract, and “If you ever cancel, we need 30 days’ notice, and then you’re done.” The Terms of Service are more specific: “Cancellation must be made at least thirty (30) days prior to the end of the current subscription cycle. If the Subscriber cancels within thirty (30) days of the end of the cycle, they will be billed for the following month.” In the help centre, a cancellation request made from the dashboard “does not immediately stop your service”; Smith.ai’s team contacts you to complete it.

Overage arrives with the next bill. For AI Receptionist plans, the Terms say overage “will be charged on your next monthly charge along with your subscription payment”. Plan changes take effect “on the next monthly payment date”, so a busy month on the wrong tier is billed at that tier’s overage rate.

The money-back guarantee needs checking for AI plans. The AI Receptionist help centre carries a money-back FAQ: a refund of “your plan and any add-on services” within 30 days, “up to $1,000”, with overage excluded. The Terms word the guarantee as applying to “first-time virtual receptionist subscription payments only” and say it does not apply to Free Plan usage or billing credits. Because the Terms also use “Virtual Receptionist Services” as a wide label for Smith.ai’s services, we cannot say for certain whether a paid AI plan is covered; ask before you rely on it.

Smaller costs. Sales tax in eight states. A late charge of “$10 or 10% of the amount then due (whichever is greater)” on payments more than ten days late. After cancellation Smith.ai may let you keep the assigned number “as a useable phone line for $10/month”. Call recordings and transcripts are kept for 90 days, so download anything you must retain.

Is Smith.ai’s AI Receptionist worth the price for your business?

That depends on two numbers only you know: how many calls you answer a month, and what share needs a human.

First, count answered calls, not rings. Take a month of call logs, remove obvious spam and hang-ups, and use the remainder. If it is under 75, the Free plan with Extra Calls is the lowest Smith.ai bill on the published prices, provided you can live without dedicated onboarding or live support, and switch off the default redirect at call 26.

Second, estimate the human share. If you expect callers to ask for a person, or you want every new client verified by a human, multiply those calls by $3.00 and add them. At 150 calls with a quarter escalating, $270.00 becomes $382.50. If that share is high, price Smith.ai’s Hybrid presets too, because a preset that routes new clients to a person is the same idea packaged differently: Smith.ai’s own estimate for 150 calls on New Client Priority is $405.

Third, compare like with like. Put the same month through each shortlisted vendor’s rules, as in the comparison table, and check what each excludes from the count. The lowest headline price is not the lowest bill when your calls are short, long or repeat-heavy.

The rule to keep: a Smith.ai AI bill is the tier fee, plus extra calls at that tier’s rate, plus $3.00 for every call that uses the live-agent add-on, minus spam credits capped at 10% of the quota. Four numbers, all on Smith.ai’s own pages.

Frequently asked questions

How much is Smith.ai’s AI receptionist per month?

Smith.ai’s AI Receptionist costs $0 a month for 25 calls on the Free plan, then Pro at $150 for 75 calls, $270 for 150 or $500 for 300, and Enterprise at $500 for 300 or $800 for 500 calls, with 1,000+ calls priced on request. Extra calls cost $3.00 to $2.10 each depending on the tier (Smith.ai AI Receptionist pricing, USD, read 28 October 2026).

Is Smith.ai’s AI Receptionist free?

Yes, up to 25 answered calls a month on the Free plan, which Smith.ai calls “Not a trial” and says needs a card at sign-up with no charge until you authorise one. Beyond 25 calls you either let them redirect to you, the default, or fund prepaid credits and pay $3.00 a call.

Does Smith.ai charge for spam calls?

Not for calls from its list of 20 million+ known spammers, which are filtered before the AI answers. Spam that gets through is billable unless you mark it, and you can remove at most 10% of your plan’s call quota a billing cycle, shared with test calls (Smith.ai: How to Manage Spam Callers).

How much does it cost when a Smith.ai live agent takes the call?

A flat $3.00 extra per call, on top of the plan fee and any overage, when the caller asks for a person, a new caller is verified by a human, a live agent books on a non-integrated calendar, or a playbook hands the caller type to a live agent. Escalations caused by the AI not understanding, outages and transfers to your own business are not billed as the add-on (Smith.ai: Live Agent Add-on Billing Overview).

What is the difference between Smith.ai’s AI Receptionist and its Virtual Receptionists?

The AI Receptionist is AI-first: software answers every call and a human joins only when you enable it, from $0 for 25 calls. Virtual Receptionists are human-first: a live receptionist answers every call, from $300 a month for 30 calls with $11.50 per extra call (Smith.ai Virtual Receptionists pricing). Hybrid sits between the two, from about $2.50 a call.

Can I cancel Smith.ai’s AI Receptionist at any time?

It is month-to-month with no long-term contract, but you need to give notice. Smith.ai’s Terms of Service say cancellation must be made at least 30 days before the end of the current subscription cycle, or you are billed for the following month (Smith.ai Terms of Service).

Does Zian AI publish a price?

No. Zian AI is in a partnership-application beta and publishes no price, so no Zian figure appears on this page. Each of its three listed plans, including Intel + Widgets (Free Forever), starts with a partnership application. LeadsNow.ai, the done-for-you option that runs on Zian, is billed pay-per-result.
