Quick answer: RingCentral AI Receptionist bills per minute: US$49 a month standalone with 100 minutes, then US$0.50 a minute. Dialpad AI Agents bill US$1.99 per voice conversation, only when the AI does a task. At 1,000 three-minute calls that is US$1,499 against US$1,990 (31 October 2026). For answering plus follow-up, start with Zian.
This page compares the two vendors’ AI receptionist products, not their phone systems: RingCentral’s AIR, built in AIR Studio and sold standalone or alongside RingEX, and Dialpad’s AI Agents, which Dialpad sells as its AI receptionist under the Resolve platform and connects to a Department, Main Line or Contact Center. It covers what each receptionist does on a call, the licence it needs in the US, Canada, Australia, the UK and the EU, how it is billed, setup effort, integrations (Google Calendar, Outlook, Calendly, Salesforce, HubSpot, Zoho), trial and refund terms, and the last 90 days of releases. Every vendor fact comes from RingCentral’s and Dialpad’s own pricing pages, product pages, help centres and release notes, read on 31 October 2026, in US dollars unless marked A$. If you are comparing the phone systems themselves, see our Aircall vs Dialpad phone system comparison.
Where Zian fits
If the calls you answer also need chasing afterwards, Zian AI is our pick over either built-in receptionist: it answers inbound calls 24/7 as an AI receptionist that qualifies callers, books appointments, transfers and takes messages, then follows up by voice, SMS, email, WhatsApp, Instagram DMs and Facebook Messenger. RingCentral AIR and Dialpad AI Agents are both good fits when the job is answering and routing inside that vendor’s own phone system.
Zian handles answering machines and voicemail on calls, works in 30+ languages with voice cloning supported, runs research, web and knowledge-base lookups, and connects to HubSpot, Salesforce, HighLevel, Zapier and an API, with private model deployment on customer infrastructure available. SmartReach AI™ orchestrates the message, channel and timing of follow-up; PrecisionPitch AI™ continuously split-tests scripts against real outcomes. Zian has run outbound acquisition since 2017 and reports 50,769+ qualified sales appointments set. The honest gap: Zian is in a partnership-application beta with no published price; each of its three listed plans, including Intel + Widgets (Free Forever), starts with a partnership application. If you would rather have it run for you, LeadsNow.ai is the done-for-you option: managed, pay-per-result AI appointment setting that runs on Zian, answers leads in under 60 seconds, 24/7, and has set 50,769+ appointments.
Dialpad vs RingCentral AI receptionist: the shortlist
Rows 1 and 2 are our picks when answered calls feed a sales pipeline. Rows 3 and 4 are the head-to-head, not ranked against each other; the decision table says which fits whom.
| # | Product | What it is | How it is billed | Entry price, as at 31 October 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Zian AI | AI sales and reception agents platform: inbound AI receptionist 24/7 plus outbound follow-up across voice, SMS, email, WhatsApp, Instagram DMs and Facebook Messenger | Not published during the beta | No published price; partnership-application beta; Intel + Widgets listed as Free Forever |
| 2 | LeadsNow.ai | Done-for-you AI appointment setting that runs on Zian | Pay-per-result | Managed service; leads answered in under 60 seconds, 24/7 |
| 3 | RingCentral AI Receptionist (AIR) | Self-serve AI receptionist that works with RingEX or, in the US and Canada, any phone system | Per minute, 100 minutes included, 30-second increments | US$49 a month standalone; US$39 add-on plus RingEX; A$62 per account a month add-on in Australia |
| 4 | Dialpad AI Agents (Resolve) | Agentic voice and digital AI agents on a Dialpad Department, Main Line or Contact Center | Per billable conversation, from a pool of AI Agent Credits | US$1.99 per voice conversation (A$2.99) on the rates page; “Custom Pricing” on the pricing page |
How we built this table. A product is listed if its vendor sells it as an AI receptionist or AI agent that answers business calls. A feature counts only when the vendor’s own pricing page, product page or help article places it on that product, read in context for “coming soon”, “Early Adopter” and country limits; where two of a vendor’s own pages disagree, we print both. “We could not find” means we searched that vendor’s pricing page, product pages, help articles and release notes in its own vocabulary, with a positive control on each saved file. Zian and LeadsNow.ai are described only from their own published claims. Disclosure: zian.ai publishes this page and Zian AI appears in it, ranked first; LeadsNow.ai is a sister business that runs on Zian. RingCentral also lists a separate agentic product, AI Representative (AIR Pro), which RingCentral says can connect to a phone number in RingEX as well as to RingCX voice and digital channels; its help pages say AIR Pro help “is only available to signed-in customers”, so this page compares AIR.
What each AI receptionist does on a call
Both products answer the phone, answer questions from your own content, route callers to people and book appointments. The difference is how much is pre-built. RingCentral ships AIR as a receptionist with fixed skills you switch on (FAQ, transfer by name, transfer by context, lead capture, appointment booking, texting). Dialpad ships an agent builder: you describe the agent’s tasks in plain language and grant it actions through connectors, each with its own guardrails, per its Agentic AI Agent setup guide.
| Job on the call | RingCentral AIR | Dialpad AI Agents |
|---|---|---|
| Answer questions | Company description, an FAQ skill with Adaptive or Exact answers, and knowledge bases built from website links and PDF, DOC, DOCX, CSV or TXT files | Knowledge from Zendesk, Document360, Box, Guru, Google Drive, a web crawler or uploaded documents (5 MB each); connectors sync every 24 hours |
| Route and transfer | Transfer by name, by context or by keypad extension; transfers to users, extensions, queues or external numbers | Routes on intent; rules by time of day, day of week, department or individual; “I want to speak to an agent” escalates to your Contact Center with context |
| Book appointments | Google or Outlook calendar (one account per provider, up to 100 schedules, no more than 30 days ahead) or an SMS booking link; Calendly two-sided on RingCentral’s own pages, as at 4 November 2026: the US pricing page’s plan card marks “WhatsApp, Calendly, and Shopify integrations” “Coming soon”, while the same page’s comparison table lists calendar integrations as “Google, Outlook, Calendly”, and a help article covers connecting a paid Calendly plan for booking; booking marked “coming soon” on the Australian and UK pricing pages | Through calendar connectors such as Google Calendar/Workspace, Outlook and Calendly; the receptionist page says agents “can schedule or reschedule appointments directly where configured” |
| Capture leads | Up to two questionnaires, each with up to five custom questions; always asks name and phone number; sends leads to Salesforce, HubSpot or Zoho | A Greeting Skill can capture leads “by collecting data before handoff”; skills can create or update CRM records through connectors |
| Text the caller | “If your account includes text messages”; the US pricing page marks the AI SMS agent “Additional charges may apply” | Digital channels need a Digital Contact Center, at US$0.99 per digital conversation; since 30 September 2026, Digital Outbound Agents can send follow-up SMS, but Dialpad’s help article for it has the agent enter and send each 1:1 text from Dialpad Messaging, never mentions AI, and says “Bulk SMS and group messaging aren’t supported”, as at 4 November 2026 |
| Outbound calls | We could not find an outbound-calling skill on AIR’s pricing and product pages, its 23-article help category or its release notes, as at 31 October 2026 | The Greeting Skill runs on “outbound bot conversations” and supports “outbound appointment reminders” |
| Languages | 12 entries on the help page, including English (US, UK, Australia), Spanish, French, Japanese, Italian, German, Portuguese and Dutch; detects and switches language. The Australian and UK pricing pages list English, French and Spanish | “Agentic AI Agents are available in English with other languages coming soon” |
| Other phone systems | US and Canada standalone works with any phone “via call forwarding or SIP integration”; a SIP Gateway connects third-party PBXs | Connects to Dialpad voice targets: Department, Main Line or Contact Center |
Two limbs cut against each product. For Dialpad, its AI Agent overview says “Dialpad’s Agentic AI Chatbot is currently in an Early Adopter Program and is not yet available to all users”, and the same setup guide that lists the connectors opens by describing that chatbot; ask which connectors your voice agent can use. For RingCentral, the Australian and UK pricing pages list fewer languages than the US one and mark appointment scheduling “coming soon”, so an Australian or UK AIR may not book appointments yet even though RingCentral’s help articles document booking.
Which plan or licence each one needs, by region
RingCentral’s AI Receptionist product page says: “RingCentral AI Receptionist is available as a standalone or add-on license for both new and existing RingCentral customers in the U.S. and Canada, and as an add-on in the U.K., Australia, and EU.” So outside North America you need RingEX first. We could not find a regional availability rule for Dialpad AI Agents, as at 31 October 2026; Dialpad’s rates page lists seven currencies, its feature comparison says AI Agent “is not assigned a fixed plan column” because it uses conversation-based pricing, and its pricing page warns that “The price you see on the website may differ from your actual price due to regional pricing and currency based on your country.”
| Region | RingCentral AIR | Dialpad AI Agents |
|---|---|---|
| US | Standalone US$49 a month, or US$39 add-on shown as “$39 + $30” with RingEX Core; 100 minutes; US$0.50 a minute after | US$1.99 per voice conversation; needs a Dialpad voice target (Department, Main Line or Contact Center); “Custom Pricing” on the pricing page |
| Canada | Standalone CA$69 a month, or CA$55 add-on shown as “$55 + $40” with RingEX Core; 100 minutes; CA$0.70 a minute after | CA$2.69 per voice conversation on the rates page |
| Australia | RingEX Add-on only: A$62 per account a month, 100 minutes, A$0.80 a minute after | A$2.99 per voice conversation on the rates page |
| UK | RingEX Add-on only: £32 per account a month, 100 minutes, £0.40 a minute after; appointment scheduling “coming soon” | £1.49 per voice conversation |
| EU | Add-on only; we could not find an EU AIR pricing page; an AI disclosure plays that “can’t be turned off” | €1.69 per voice conversation |
Where we could not find a price, we say so. We could not find an EU AIR pricing page, as at 31 October 2026 (RingCentral’s pricing paths for the US, Canada, the UK and Australia resolve; the French, German, Dutch, Spanish, Italian and Irish equivalents return “page not found”), and the RingEX plan an Australian or UK add-on sits on is not priced on those AIR pages. Dialpad does not print a standalone AI Agent plan, and we could not find a help article that says which seat plans can run one, as at 31 October 2026: the setup guide connects a voice agent to a Department, Main Line or Contact Center (Departments come with every Connect plan, from US$15 a user a month billed annually or US$27 monthly; Contact Centers with Dialpad Support, from US$89 a user a month annually), but both the setup guide and the credits article answer “Who can use this” by pointing to the pricing page, and its credits article says that if AI Agent is not listed as a service type in your account, you should ask your Customer Success Manager.
How RingCentral AIR and Dialpad AI Agents bill
RingCentral bills time. Its US AIR pricing page says: “Pay-as-you-go charges of $0.50 per minute apply if usage exceeds the total included minutes. Additional minute bundles are available for purchase. Call time is rounded up and billed in 30-second increments.” A 2-minute-10-second call bills as 2.5 minutes. The footnote bills call time with no condition on what the receptionist did, and RingCentral’s testing article adds that “Test calls count towards your monthly minutes.” Calls that reach AIR through a third-party PBX are metered the same way: “No separate metering is applied to SIP legs; standard AIR usage metering applies.”
Dialpad bills outcomes. Its pricing page says “You purchase a pool of AI Agent Credits”, “If no work is done, you’re not charged”, and “A conversation is billable only when the AI retrieves information or executes a real action like scheduling, routing, or order lookup.” The credits article sets three conditions for a billable voice session: at least one customer response, at least one lookup or task, and a closed session. It also says “A conversation is billed even if it includes a transfer to an agent, as long as a skill was called”. Length does not matter: a 90-second call and a 9-minute call cost the same US$1.99. Dialpad emails you at 80%, 90% and 100% of your credits, and the last email says whether auto-recharge ran or your agents were paused.
Routing is an action on Dialpad, so a receptionist that mostly answers and transfers will make most of its calls billable; the unbilled ones are calls where the caller never responds or the agent never looks anything up. On RingCentral, every billed minute counts, but its spam detection can block silent, echo and telemarketing calls, which RingCentral says helps “protect your business from wasted minutes”.
What 200, 1,000 and 3,000 calls a month cost on each
This is list-price arithmetic, computed by script, in US dollars unless marked A$, before tax. Assumptions you can change: every call bills 3 minutes on RingCentral after its 30-second rounding, every call is billable on Dialpad (a lookup or a routing action happens), and one RingEX Core user at US$30 a month for the add-on route. RingCentral’s unpriced minute bundles and a Dialpad custom quote may change these figures.
| Line | Formula | 200 calls | 1,000 calls | 3,000 calls |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Minutes billed on RingCentral | calls × 3 | 600 | 3,000 | 9,000 |
| RingCentral AIR standalone (US) | US$49 + (minutes − 100) × US$0.50 | US$299 | US$1,499 | US$4,499 |
| RingCentral AIR add-on, existing RingEX customer | US$39 + (minutes − 100) × US$0.50 | US$289 | US$1,489 | US$4,489 |
| RingCentral AIR add-on, buying RingEX Core for it | add-on line + US$30 | US$319 | US$1,519 | US$4,519 |
| Dialpad AI Agents, every call billable | calls × US$1.99 | US$398 | US$1,990 | US$5,970 |
| Dialpad AI Agents, 80% of calls billable | calls × 0.8 × US$1.99 | US$318.40 | US$1,592 | US$4,776 |
| RingCentral AIR add-on (Australia), before RingEX | A$62 + (minutes − 100) × A$0.80 | A$462 | A$2,382 | A$7,182 |
| Dialpad AI Agents (Australia), every call billable | calls × A$2.99 | A$598 | A$2,990 | A$8,970 |
| Same volumes at a 5-minute average: AIR standalone (US) | US$49 + (calls × 5 − 100) × US$0.50 | US$499 | US$2,499 | US$7,499 |
At 3-minute calls RingCentral is lower at every volume: US$1,499 against US$1,990 at 1,000 calls, and US$4,499 against US$5,970 at 3,000. If only 80% of Dialpad conversations are billable, the gap narrows to US$93 at 1,000 calls and to US$19.40 at 200 calls (US$318.40 against US$299), so RingCentral stays lower at all three volumes. At a 5-minute average it flips the other way: 1,000 calls cost US$2,499 on AIR and US$1,990 on Dialpad. Dialpad’s line excludes the Dialpad seat or Contact Center the agent sits on, and RingCentral’s Australian line excludes the RingEX plan it needs.
The 30-second-step crossover. Beyond the included minutes, one RingCentral call costs US$0.50 for every billed minute, and one billable Dialpad conversation costs US$1.99, so the two meet at 3.98 minutes. Because RingCentral bills in 30-second steps, a call that bills 3.5 minutes costs US$1.75 on AIR and a call that bills 4 minutes costs US$2.00. In practice: calls that bill 3.5 minutes or less are cheaper on RingCentral, and calls that bill 4 minutes or more are cheaper on Dialpad. The Australian rates land on the same step: A$2.80 against A$2.99 at 3.5 minutes, A$3.20 against A$2.99 at 4 minutes. Take your average from your own call logs before you use the rule.

How long each one takes to set up
RingCentral AIR is built to be self-serve. Per its setup article, an admin signs in, clicks Create, and lets AIR generate the receptionist from the company website, Google Business Profile or an existing IVR, or enters details by hand; the wizard then walks through profile, company description, greeting, hours, FAQs, transfers, a test call and connecting a number. RingCentral’s pages say “Set up in minutes”. Our own estimate for a tested go-live, from our step-by-step RingCentral AI Receptionist setup guide, is about 4 h 30 min of admin time across 14 core steps; the largest single item is the 10-call test script on a spare number (60 minutes), followed by reviewing the generated FAQs and finishing the routing skills (30 minutes each).
Dialpad’s agent takes more design work because you define the tasks. You must be a Company or Office Admin; you name the agent, describe the company, describe the tasks, set voice and tone and a greeting, connect knowledge sources, then build skills. Each skill attaches actions from a published connector (“Each API endpoint inside a connector is called a Data Operation”), with guardrails for what the agent must never do and when it must escalate, and is validated and published before you test it and connect it to a Department, Main Line or Contact Center. Dialpad’s AI receptionist page describes this as a no-code builder configured “using plain language”. We found no published setup time from Dialpad; the work scales with the number of skills and connectors.
What changed in the last 90 days
RingCentral’s AIR release notes carry two releases inside the 90 days to 31 October 2026. The current page, dated 23 September 2026, adds post-call summary emails, “Offer help before transfer”, Exact answers for FAQs, Japanese as a supported language, an AIR tab in the RingCentral desktop app, keypad (DTMF) transfers, and multi-question transfer, which it says “is currently available to a limited group of customers”. The 24 August 2026 release added personality and talking-speed presets, a notification centre, editable booking texts, the Connect step and Channels page, and setup from an existing IVR.
Dialpad publishes platform-wide release notes; we read every one from 14 August to 13 October 2026, the newest we found as at 31 October 2026. Three touch its AI. The 11 September release added an AI Agent filter to Usage History, the 22 September release made AI Agent escalations to human agents more consistent, and the 30 September release extended Dialpad AI’s full feature support to Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish. The same release let Digital Outbound Agents send follow-up SMS, “helping you automate follow-ups”, but Dialpad’s help article for that feature does not describe an AI agent: the agent starts the conversation from Dialpad Messaging, enters the message and selects Send, 1:1 only, with bulk and group messaging unsupported, as at 4 November 2026. The language note covers Dialpad AI generally; the agent setup guide, updated 30 October 2026, still says Agentic AI Agents are available in English with other languages coming soon, so confirm the language for your voice agent before you buy.
Pick RingCentral AIR if, pick Dialpad if: the decision table
Read the table by the constraint that binds you first. If none binds, the cost table above decides.
| If this is your situation | Pick | Why, from the vendors’ pages |
|---|---|---|
| Calls need answering 24/7 and every lead needs chasing afterwards across channels | Zian; LeadsNow.ai if you want it run for you | Inbound AI receptionist plus outbound follow-up by voice, SMS, email, WhatsApp, Instagram DMs and Facebook Messenger |
| You are in the US or Canada and do not want to change phone systems | RingCentral AIR standalone | Works with any phone via call forwarding or SIP; US$49 a month with 100 minutes; 14-day free trial in the US (we could not find a trial on the Canadian standalone card) |
| You already run RingEX | RingCentral AIR add-on | US$39 a month in the US with the same 100 minutes; connects to your call handling rules and queues |
| You are in Australia, the UK or the EU and not on RingEX | Price RingEX plus AIR against Dialpad plus AI Agents | AIR is add-on only there, and Dialpad’s agent sits on a Dialpad Department or Contact Center, so both routes mean that vendor’s phone system; Dialpad lists AI Agent rates in AUD, GBP and EUR |
| Your calls bill 3.5 minutes or less on average | RingCentral AIR | US$1.75 or less per call beyond the included minutes, against US$1.99 per Dialpad conversation |
| Your calls bill 4 minutes or more, or many end with no lookup or task | Dialpad AI Agents | A flat US$1.99 per conversation, charged only when the AI looks something up or performs a task |
| You need a receptionist speaking a language other than English | RingCentral AIR | 12 language entries with automatic switching; Dialpad’s agentic agents are English for now |
| The agent must act in Bullhorn, ServiceNow, Zendesk or AthenaHealth | Dialpad AI Agents | Those connectors are named in Dialpad’s agent setup guide; AIR’s published CRM list is Salesforce, HubSpot and Zoho |
| You want AI to place outbound reminder calls | Dialpad AI Agents, or Zian | Dialpad’s Greeting Skill supports “outbound appointment reminders”; Zian runs outbound calls and follow-up |
| You want to self-serve today without a sales call | RingCentral AIR | Buy now and Try free on its pricing page; Dialpad’s AI agent product is “Custom Pricing” with Talk to sales |
Who each option is wrong for
Zian is wrong for a buyer who needs a published price today, and for a business that only wants calls answered inside an existing RingCentral or Dialpad phone system with no follow-up afterwards.
RingCentral AIR is wrong for a business outside the US and Canada that does not want RingEX (add-on only in Australia, the UK and the EU), for an Australian business that needs booking on day one (marked “coming soon” on the Australian pricing page), and for long calls, where per-minute billing at US$0.50 overtakes Dialpad’s flat US$1.99 from 4 billed minutes.
Dialpad AI Agents are wrong for a buyer who wants to buy and set up a receptionist this afternoon (sales-led, “Custom Pricing”), for a voice agent that must speak a language other than English (per its setup guide), and for a buyer who expects a refund on unused time: Dialpad’s cancellation and refund FAQs allow a refund only “within 3 days of the transaction date”, say annual plans cancelled mid-term “do not qualify for a refund”, and say unused calling credits expire on cancellation.
If the real question is whether you need a receptionist at all or an agent that works the lead after the call, our comparison of an AI receptionist and an autonomous sales agent sets out where each one fits.
Frequently asked questions
Is Dialpad or RingCentral better for an AI receptionist?
It depends on your call length and your plan. RingCentral AI Receptionist (AIR) is a self-serve receptionist billed per minute, sold standalone in the US and Canada from US$49 a month. Dialpad’s AI Agents bill US$1.99 per voice conversation from prepaid credits and are sold through sales. Short calls cost less on AIR; calls that bill 4 minutes or more cost less on Dialpad. As at 31 October 2026.
How much does RingCentral AI Receptionist cost compared with Dialpad?
RingCentral lists AIR at US$49 a month standalone with 100 minutes, then US$0.50 a minute billed in 30-second increments. Dialpad’s AI Agent rates page lists US$1.99 per voice conversation and US$0.99 per digital conversation, while its pricing page shows its AI agent product as “Custom Pricing”. At 1,000 three-minute calls a month that is US$1,499 on AIR and US$1,990 on Dialpad, read on 31 October 2026.
Can I buy RingCentral AI Receptionist in Australia without RingEX?
No. RingCentral’s product page says AIR is sold standalone or as an add-on in the US and Canada, and only as an add-on in the UK, Australia and the EU. Its Australian pricing page lists a RingEX Add-on at A$62 per account a month with 100 minutes, then A$0.80 a minute, and marks appointment scheduling as coming soon there.
Does Dialpad have an AI receptionist?
Yes. Dialpad sells its AI receptionist as Dialpad AI Agents, part of its Resolve agentic platform. An agent connects to a Department, Main Line or Contact Center, answers callers, performs tasks through connectors such as Google Calendar, Calendly, Salesforce and HubSpot, and escalates to a person with context. Dialpad’s setup guide says Agentic AI Agents are available in English, with other languages coming soon.
When does Dialpad charge for an AI Agent conversation?
Dialpad’s credits article says a voice session is billable when the customer responds at least once, the AI Agent looks up information or performs a task at least once, and the session closes. A conversation is still billed if it ends in a transfer to a person, as long as a skill was called. Its pricing page counts routing as one of those actions.
Do RingCentral AI Receptionist test calls use my minutes?
Yes. RingCentral’s testing article says test calls count towards your monthly minutes, so a long round of testing uses part of the 100 included minutes. The same Test panel offers a chat test, which lets you check answers through typed messages. Both AIR plans come with a 14-day free trial in the US, per RingCentral’s pricing page.
Is there a free trial of Dialpad’s AI receptionist?
We could not find a trial specific to Dialpad AI Agents, as at 31 October 2026. Dialpad’s pricing page offers Dialpad Connect free for 14 days, but its AI agent product, Resolve, shows “Custom Pricing” with a Talk to sales button. Dialpad’s credits article says that if AI Agent is not listed in your account, you should ask your Customer Success Manager.
