Quick answer: Quo (formerly OpenPhone) is cheaper for a US or Canadian team that wants AI answering: 5 users and 200 AI-answered calls cost US$265.50 a month on Quo against US$574.50 on Dialpad, billed monthly. Pick Dialpad for numbers outside North America, AI that books into your calendar or outbound AI reminders. For AI that also chases leads, start with Zian (2 November 2026).
“Dialpad vs Quo” is a choice between two cloud business phone systems that both sell an AI agent to answer calls. Quo, formerly OpenPhone, sells Starter, Business and Scale plans with its Sona AI agent billed per answered call. Dialpad sells business calling as Dialpad Connect and AI agents under Dialpad Resolve, billed per conversation. We compare seats, AI answering, SMS and A2P 10DLC registration with The Campaign Registry, international numbers, HubSpot and Salesforce integrations, trials, refunds and 90 days of release notes, from each vendor’s own pages read on 2 November 2026, in US dollars unless marked A$.
Where Zian fits
If the calls you answer also need chasing afterwards, Zian AI is our pick over either phone system’s built-in AI: its agents answer inbound calls 24/7 as an AI receptionist that qualifies callers, books appointments, transfers and takes messages, then follow up by voice, SMS, email, WhatsApp, Instagram DMs and Facebook Messenger. Quo and Dialpad are both sound choices for the phone system itself, and both have an AI that answers calls.
Zian handles answering machines and voicemail on calls, works in 30+ languages with voice cloning supported, runs research, web and knowledge-base lookups, and connects to HubSpot, Salesforce, HighLevel, Zapier and an API, with private model deployment on customer infrastructure available. Zian’s home page reports 50,769+ qualified sales appointments set and a 2,736% increase in lead contact rates.
Zian is not the only AI here that answers calls. Quo’s Sona answers 24/7, transfers callers and texts them a booking link, though Quo says “Sona currently answers only inbound calls.” Dialpad’s AI Agents can book through calendar connectors and run outbound appointment reminders. Both run inside their own vendor’s phone system; Zian’s agents cover inbound calls and outbound follow-up across six channels.
The honest limit: Zian is in a partnership-application beta with no published prices; each of its three listed plans, including Intel + Widgets (Free Forever), starts with a partnership application. If you would rather have it run for you, LeadsNow.ai is the done-for-you option: a managed, pay-per-result AI appointment-setting service that runs on Zian, answers leads in under 60 seconds, 24/7, and has set 50,769+ appointments.
Dialpad vs Quo: the shortlist
Rows 1 and 2 are our picks when answered calls feed a sales pipeline. Rows 3 and 4 are the head-to-head, not ranked against each other; the decision table says which fits whom.
| # | Option | What it is | AI answering | Entry price, as at 2 November 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Zian AI | AI sales and reception agents platform: inbound AI receptionist 24/7 plus outbound follow-up across voice, SMS, email, WhatsApp, Instagram DMs and Facebook Messenger | Yes: answers, qualifies, books, transfers, takes messages; outbound calls and follow-up | No published price; partnership-application beta; Intel + Widgets listed as Free Forever |
| 2 | LeadsNow.ai | Done-for-you AI appointment setting that runs on Zian | Managed for you; leads answered in under 60 seconds, 24/7 | Pay-per-result |
| 3 | Quo (formerly OpenPhone) | Business phone system for small teams: Starter, Business, Scale | Sona: 10 calls a month included per workspace, paid tiers from US$25 for 40 calls; inbound only | Starter US$15 a user a month billed annually (US$19 monthly) |
| 4 | Dialpad | Dialpad Connect for business calling, plus Dialpad AI Agents (Resolve) | AI Agents: US$1.99 per voice conversation on the rates page; “Custom Pricing” on the pricing page | Connect Standard US$15 a user a month billed annually (US$27 monthly) |
How we built this table. A vendor fact counts only when that vendor’s own pricing page, product page, help article or changelog states it, read in context for beta, plan and country limits. Where two of a vendor’s own pages disagree, we print both. “We could not find” means we searched that vendor’s pricing page, product pages, help centre and changelog, with a positive control on each saved file. Quo’s Markdown pricing export (dated 1 July 2025) omits Starter; we use its rendered pricing page. Zian and LeadsNow.ai are described only from their own claims. Disclosure: zian.ai publishes this page and Zian AI appears in it, ranked first; LeadsNow.ai is a sister business that runs on Zian.
Is Quo the same as OpenPhone?
Yes. Quo’s own changelog entry of 23 September 2025 is headed “OpenPhone is now Quo” and says “OpenPhone has a new name — Quo. Same platform you know and love.” It adds that “your phone numbers, your conversations, your team setup — stays exactly the same.” On 2 November 2026 openphone.com redirected to quo.com, whose home page title reads “Quo (formerly OpenPhone)”, and Quo’s fair-use policy names the company as “OpenPhone (DBA: Quo)”. An older review of OpenPhone describes the same product, but check its prices against Quo’s current page.
Dialpad vs Quo pricing, plan by plan
The table lists US list prices per user per month from Quo’s pricing page and Dialpad’s pricing page on 2 November 2026. Dialpad’s monthly figures are in the page data behind its “Monthly” toggle. Dialpad Sell (from US$39 annually) and Dialpad Support (from US$89) are sales and contact-centre seats, which our Aircall vs Dialpad phone system comparison covers plan by plan.
| Plan | Annual billing, per user a month | Monthly billing, per user a month | What the plan adds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Quo Starter | US$15 (billed US$180 a year) | US$19 | One local or toll-free number per user, US and Canada calls and texts, voicemail transcripts, Quo API, Sona with 1,000 free credits; shared numbers for up to 10 paid users |
| Quo Business | US$23 (US$276 a year) | US$33 | AI call summaries and transcripts on all calls, call transfers, phone menus, HubSpot and Salesforce integrations, analytics, auto call recording |
| Quo Scale | US$35 (US$420 a year) | US$47 | AI call tags, dedicated onboarding, priority support, inbound phone support |
| Dialpad Connect Standard | US$15 | US$27 | Unlimited US and Canada calling, messaging, meetings, real-time transcripts and AI Recaps, Departments; manual call recording only |
| Dialpad Connect Pro | US$25 | US$35 | Adds CRM integrations, 24/7 support, multi-office management, automatic call recording on shared lines and Departments |
| Dialpad Connect Enterprise | Contact us for pricing | Contact us for pricing | Adds SSO, user access controls, unlimited office locations, 99.9% uptime |
Three limbs change the totals. Quo adds “taxes and fees” at checkout, and Dialpad warns that “The price you see on the website may differ from your actual price due to regional pricing and currency based on your country.” Quo’s unlimited US and Canada calling and texting is “Subject to our Fair Usage Policy”, which reserves the right “to impose limits and charge overages”. Quo charges US$5 a month per extra number; Dialpad’s feature comparison includes a direct line per Connect user and sells extra numbers as an add-on.
Annual billing saves 21.1% on Quo Starter, 30.3% on Business and 25.5% on Scale, against 44.4% on Dialpad Connect Standard and 28.6% on Connect Pro. We could not find a published seat minimum for either vendor’s self-serve plans, as at 2 November 2026; Dialpad’s billing FAQ says only that “A minimum user requirement applies” when you move to invoiced contract billing. For Australian teams, Dialpad’s page data lists Connect Standard at A$20 a user a month annually (A$32 monthly) and Pro at A$35 (A$45 monthly). Quo’s pricing page lists US dollars only.
How Quo Sona and Dialpad AI Agents are billed
Quo bills Sona per answered call from a monthly credit tier; Dialpad bills AI Agents per billable conversation from a prepaid pool. Quo’s tiers, from its Sona pricing article:
| Sona tier | Monthly price | Calls included (100 credits a call) | Overage per call |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tier 1 (free) | US$0 | 10 | US$1.00 |
| Tier 2 | US$25 | 40 | US$0.75 |
| Tier 3 | US$49 | 100 | US$0.65 |
| Tier 4 | US$99 | 250 | US$0.55 |
| Tier 5 | US$199 | 600 | US$0.45 |
The same article says “Every workspace starts with 1,000 credits (~10 calls) each month”, so the free allowance is per workspace, not per user, and “Calls under 15 seconds don’t count toward usage.” Overages are off by default: when credits run out, calls take your call flow’s fallback path. Paid tiers need a paid plan (not the trial), and unused credits expire monthly. Quo’s Sona page also offers eligible paid customers a 7-day Sona trial with unlimited usage that auto-converts to a paid subscription.
Dialpad’s AI Agent rates page lists US$1.99 per voice conversation and US$0.99 per digital conversation (A$2.99 and A$1.49), while its pricing page shows Dialpad Resolve, the AI agent product, as “Custom Pricing”. That page says “A conversation is billable only when the AI retrieves information or executes a real action like scheduling, routing, or order lookup.” Dialpad’s credits article adds that a session “is billed even if it includes a transfer to an agent, as long as a skill was called”, and that if AI Agent is not listed in your account you should ask your Customer Success Manager. Call length does not change the price. For how Dialpad’s per-conversation model compares with per-minute AI receptionist billing, see our Dialpad vs RingCentral AI receptionist comparison.
What a month costs at 1, 5 and 20 users with AI answering
List-price arithmetic, computed by script, in US dollars before tax. Assumptions you can change: the AI answers 50, 200 or 600 calls a month; every Sona call lasts 15 seconds or more; every Dialpad AI conversation is billable; Quo uses the cheapest Sona tier, with overages on; both register for US texting at the US$1.50 monthly low-volume campaign fee; texts stay inside Dialpad’s allowance; no extra numbers. One user is on Quo Starter against Connect Standard; 5 and 20 users are on Quo Business against Connect Pro, the lowest plans whose plan cards list CRM integrations.
| Scenario | Quo seats | Quo Sona | Quo total: monthly / annual billing | Dialpad seats | Dialpad AI Agents | Dialpad total: monthly / annual billing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 user, 50 AI-answered calls | US$19 / US$15 | US$32.50 (Tier 2 US$25 + 10 × US$0.75) | US$53.00 / US$49.00 | US$27 / US$15 | US$99.50 (50 × US$1.99) | US$128.00 / US$116.00 |
| 5 users, 200 AI-answered calls | US$165 / US$115 | US$99 (Tier 4, 250 calls) | US$265.50 / US$215.50 | US$175 / US$125 | US$398.00 (200 × US$1.99) | US$574.50 / US$524.50 |
| 20 users, 600 AI-answered calls | US$660 / US$460 | US$199 (Tier 5, 600 calls) | US$860.50 / US$660.50 | US$700 / US$500 | US$1,194.00 (600 × US$1.99) | US$1,895.50 / US$1,695.50 |
Each total includes the US$1.50 campaign fee. One-time registration is extra: US$19.50 on Quo, and a US$4 brand fee plus US$15 campaign vetting on Dialpad, per its Campaign Registry article.
The seats are close; the AI is the swing. On annual billing Quo Starter and Connect Standard are both US$15 a user. But Quo’s dearest AI rate is the free tier’s US$1.00 overage, while Dialpad lists US$1.99 a voice conversation. Because Dialpad bills only conversations where the AI does work, here is the break-even on monthly billing: Dialpad costs less only if no more than 12 of 50, 44 of 200 or 79 of 600 calls are billable. At half billable, Dialpad still costs more (US$78.25, US$375.50 and US$1,298.50). A custom Dialpad quote could change this.
What the arithmetic leaves out is what each AI can do, covered next. For the wider cost picture, see our guide to AI receptionist cost for a small business.

What each AI does on a call: Quo Sona vs Dialpad AI Agents
Both AIs answer the phone, answer questions from your own content and hand callers to people. They differ on booking, outbound calling and languages.
| Job | Quo Sona | Dialpad AI Agents |
|---|---|---|
| Answer questions | Knowledge from your website URL, PDFs or custom documents; up to 10 jobs per Sona step | Knowledge sources and connectors; skills that look up or act in connected systems |
| Book appointments | Texts the caller a booking link during the call; “Sona cannot handle rescheduling and cancellations on a live call” | Calendar connectors including Google Calendar/Workspace, Outlook and Calendly; the receptionist page says agents can schedule or reschedule “directly where configured” |
| Transfer callers | To a teammate, shared inbox or external number; Sona then leaves the call | Routes on intent and by time of day, day of week, department or individual; “I want to speak to an agent” escalates to your Contact Center |
| Text the caller | Send SMS action, to the caller’s number only, once your number is registered | Digital channels need a Digital Contact Center; Digital Engagement is “N/A” on Connect in the feature comparison |
| Outbound calls | “Sona currently answers only inbound calls” | A Greeting Skill supports “outbound appointment reminders” and runs on “outbound bot conversations” |
| Languages | English, Spanish and French (two Quo pages disagree on switching mid-call) | “Agentic AI Agents are available in English with other languages coming soon” |
| Where it runs | Inside Quo only: “Sona is built to be used in Quo only” | On a Dialpad Department, Main Line or Contact Center |
| Who sets it up | Workspace or inbox Owner or Admin, on web or desktop | Company or Office Admin |
Two of those cells need both sides printed. On languages, Quo’s Sona FAQ says “Sona cannot detect or switch between languages mid-call”, while its Sona setup article, in a language section marked Beta, says that with two or three languages selected Sona can “Detect the language the caller is speaking and respond in that same language.” On Dialpad, the Agentic AI Agent setup guide, updated 30 October 2026, says agents are English-only, while the 30 September 2026 release note says Dialpad AI now has “full AI feature support” in eight more languages; that note covers Dialpad AI generally. Dialpad’s AI Agent overview also says “Dialpad’s Agentic AI Chatbot is currently in an Early Adopter Program and is not yet available to all users.”
The limb that cuts against Quo is booking and outbound work: Sona sends a link rather than writing to a calendar, and Quo’s fair-use policy, under “Rules for Calling on Quo”, says customers must “not use bots, auto-dialers, or any automated calling systems under any circumstances”. The limb that cuts against Dialpad is buying it: the AI product is sales-led.
SMS, A2P 10DLC and international calling
Both vendors require US carrier registration (A2P 10DLC) with The Campaign Registry before you can text US numbers from a local number. Quo’s carrier registration article says “Most approvals happen within 24-48 hours; others have remained in pending status for up to 20 days”, and that in rare cases it may take longer than 30 days. Our guide to how long A2P 10DLC registration takes covers the stages and what slows them.
| Item | Quo | Dialpad |
|---|---|---|
| US and Canada texts | Unlimited from the Quo app, subject to fair use; API and integration texts US$0.01 a segment | First 250 outbound texts per Connect user a month, pooled by office, direct numbers only; then US$0.008 per outbound SMS from calling credits |
| Registration fees | US$19.50 one-time; US$1.50 a month (most businesses), US$3 non-profits, US$2 sole proprietors; US$15 to resubmit | US$4 brand fee and US$15 campaign vetting one-time; US$1.50 a month low-volume, US$10 high-volume, US$2 sole proprietor |
| Trial | 7 days; “No US texting” and no international calls until you pay | 14 days on Connect; no extra numbers during the trial |
| Texting many people at once | Group messages to up to 9 other people; automated texts through Zapier, Make or the API | Bulk Messaging (up to 50 recipients) for US Enterprise customers paying by invoice, transactional messages only |
| AI over SMS | Sona lead capture over SMS: beta, free on every plan, new conversations only | AI Agents on digital channels at US$0.99 per conversation, through a Digital Contact Center |
| International calling | Prepaid per-minute and per-message credits; not available on the trial | On Connect, free within your office’s country, the US and Canada; other countries per minute from credits |
| Numbers outside North America | None: Quo’s local numbers article says “we do not yet support numbers outside of the US and Canada” | “international local numbers in over 50 countries” |
One Dialpad limb is easy to misread. Its 30 September 2026 release note says “Digital Outbound Agents can now send SMS messages, helping you automate follow-ups”. The linked help article describes a person sending “1:1 outbound SMS messages” from the Messaging view, and says “Bulk SMS and group messaging aren’t supported.” Dialpad’s own Bulk Messaging article limits bulk sends to companies with a US-based enterprise office on an active Enterprise plan paying by invoice that are more than a year old (or have more than 4 offices or more than 50 licences), for transactional messages only. A five-person Connect team should not plan on Dialpad bulk texting.
Integrations, trials and refunds
Integrations. Quo’s pricing page lists Slack, Zapier and Make, Google Contacts, webhooks, HubSpot, Salesforce, Zoho CRM, Pipedrive, Attio, Clio, Jobber, Gong, HighLevel, Housecall Pro and JobTread, and its plan cards put “HubSpot and Salesforce integrations” on Business and Scale. Dialpad’s pricing page names Salesforce, HubSpot and Zoho and lists “key CRM integrations” on Connect Pro. Quo’s Sona can also create a Jobber request during a call, per its actions article.
Trials. Quo offers 7 days with every feature, but its trial article rules out US texting and international calls until you pay. Dialpad offers Connect “free for 14 days”; its sign-up article says you enter a payment method and can use a trial account only in the country it was created in. We could not find a trial of Dialpad’s AI Agents, as at 2 November 2026.
Refunds. Quo’s subscription article says “No refunds: Payments already made are non-refundable”. Quo’s pages disagree on how long cancelled numbers are kept: the pricing FAQ says 60 days, the subscription article says “30 days maximum”. Dialpad’s cancellation and refund FAQs allow a refund if you cancel “within 3 days of the transaction date”, say annual plans cancelled mid-term “do not qualify for a refund”, and say unused calling credits expire on cancellation.
What changed in the last 90 days
From Quo’s changelog and Dialpad’s release notes (14 August to 13 October 2026, the newest Dialpad note we found as at 2 November 2026):
- Quo, 17 August 2026: Sona lead capture over SMS (beta), free on every plan; business hours and lead emails followed on 1 September and 1 October.
- Quo, 1 September to 7 October 2026: contact routing, Quo Agent (an AI assistant, free in beta), two-way HighLevel sync, JobTread and Housecall Pro; on 29 October, unified webhooks.
- Dialpad, 11 and 22 September 2026: an AI Agent filter in Usage History (release note) and more consistent AI Agent escalations to people (release note).
- Dialpad, 30 September 2026: Dialpad AI in eight more languages, bulk SMS to 50 recipients, Digital Outbound Agents sending SMS, and AI Recaps for digital conversations (release note).
- Dialpad, 7 and 13 October 2026: fixes, including message notifications (release note).
Dialpad or Quo? The numbers–booking–volume check
Three questions settle most small-business choices between these two, in this order. Numbers: do your customers need to call a local number outside the US and Canada? Booking: must the AI write the appointment into your calendar, or call customers back? Volume: how many calls a month will the AI answer? If the answer to the first is yes, Dialpad. If the second is yes, Dialpad (or a dedicated agent layer). If neither, Quo is cheaper at every volume we priced.
| If you… | Pick | Why, from the vendor’s own page |
|---|---|---|
| Want AI to answer calls and chase every lead by voice, SMS, email, WhatsApp, Instagram DMs and Facebook Messenger | Zian AI | Inbound AI receptionist 24/7 plus outbound follow-up on six channels; partnership-application beta |
| Want it run for you, paid by results | LeadsNow.ai | Managed, pay-per-result appointment setting on Zian; leads answered in under 60 seconds, 24/7 |
| Need local numbers outside the US and Canada | Dialpad | “international local numbers in over 50 countries”; prices shown in A$, NZ$, £ and € |
| Need the AI to book straight into Google Calendar, Outlook or Calendly | Dialpad | Calendar connectors on its Agentic AI Agents; Sona texts a booking link instead |
| Need AI outbound reminders | Dialpad | Greeting Skill supports “outbound appointment reminders”; Sona answers only inbound calls |
| Want AI answering for a small US or Canadian team on the lowest bill | Quo | US$53.00 against US$128.00 at 1 user and 50 calls; US$860.50 against US$1,895.50 at 20 users and 600 calls (monthly billing) |
| Want AI to text back new leads and missed callers today | Quo | Sona lead capture over SMS: free on every plan during its beta, which Quo says is rolling out to workspaces gradually |
| Want a longer trial or a short refund window | Dialpad | 14-day Connect trial; refund within 3 days of a card payment. Quo: 7 days, no refunds |
Who each option is wrong for
Quo is wrong for a business that needs local numbers outside North America, an AI that writes bookings into a calendar or places outbound calls, automated dialling of any kind, or a refund after paying.
Dialpad is wrong for a buyer who wants AI answering switched on today at a published price (“Custom Pricing”), a voice agent that must speak a language other than English, or a small team that wants bulk texts (Enterprise and invoice only).
Zian is wrong for a buyer who needs a published price before talking to anyone, because Zian is in a partnership-application beta. LeadsNow.ai is wrong for a team that wants to run the software itself.
Frequently asked questions
Is Dialpad or Quo better for a small business?
For a US or Canadian team that wants AI answering on a budget, Quo’s list prices are lower in all three of our worked bills: US$265.50 against US$574.50 a month at 5 users and 200 AI-answered calls, billed monthly. Dialpad fits better if you need local numbers outside North America, an AI agent that books into Google Calendar, Outlook or Calendly, or outbound AI reminders. Prices as at 2 November 2026.
Is Quo the same company as OpenPhone?
Yes. Quo’s changelog entry of 23 September 2025 says “OpenPhone has a new name — Quo” and that numbers, conversations and team setup stay the same. openphone.com now redirects to quo.com, and Quo’s fair-use policy names the company as “OpenPhone (DBA: Quo)”.
How much does Quo’s Sona AI agent cost?
Every Quo workspace gets 1,000 free credits a month, about 10 Sona-answered calls. Paid tiers are US$25 for 40 calls, US$49 for 100, US$99 for 250 and US$199 for 600, with overage from US$1.00 down to US$0.45 a call. Calls under 15 seconds don’t count, and overages are off by default.
How much does Dialpad’s AI receptionist cost?
Dialpad’s AI Agent rates page lists US$1.99 per voice conversation and US$0.99 per digital conversation (A$2.99 and A$1.49), while its pricing page shows the AI agent product as “Custom Pricing”. A conversation is billable only when the AI looks something up or performs an action such as scheduling or routing, per Dialpad’s credits article. As at 2 November 2026.
Can Quo’s Sona make outbound calls?
No. Quo’s Sona FAQ says “Sona currently answers only inbound calls.” Quo’s fair-use policy also says customers must “not use bots, auto-dialers, or any automated calling systems under any circumstances”. Sona can text the caller during a live call and, in a beta that is free on every plan, reply to new leads by SMS.
Does Quo or Dialpad include texting in the US?
Both do, after A2P 10DLC registration with The Campaign Registry. Quo includes US and Canadian texts from its app, subject to fair use, with a US$19.50 one-time fee and US$1.50 to US$3 a month. Dialpad, per its Campaign Registry article, covers the first 250 outbound texts per Connect user each month, then US$0.008 per outbound SMS from calling credits.
Can an Australian business use Quo or Dialpad?
Dialpad says it supports international local numbers in over 50 countries and shows Connect prices in Australian dollars (A$20 a user a month on annual billing for Standard). Quo’s local numbers article says “we do not yet support numbers outside of the US and Canada” (read 2 November 2026); Quo calls and texts to other countries use prepaid per-minute and per-message credits.
