Quick answer: For a US or Canadian team that wants AI to answer calls, Quo (formerly OpenPhone) costs less at list price unless most calls end within 30 seconds: 10 users and 500 AI-answered calls of just over two minutes each come to US$429 a month on Quo Business against US$814 on RingEX Core with AI Receptionist, billed annually. Pick RingCentral for video meetings, calendar booking and numbers outside North America. For answering plus follow-up, start with Zian. As at 4 November 2026.
“Quo vs RingCentral” is a choice between two cloud business phone systems that each sell an AI agent to answer calls, metered in opposite ways. Quo, which its own fair-use policy names as “OpenPhone (DBA: Quo)”, sells Starter, Business and Scale plans and bills its Sona AI agent per answered call. RingCentral sells RingEX (phone, video meetings and team chat) and bills its AI Receptionist, which it calls AIR, per minute, rounded up to 30 seconds. We compare seats, the two AI meters, booking, languages, texting and A2P 10DLC registration with The Campaign Registry (TCR), video meetings, contracts, and Australian, UK and international availability. Every vendor fact comes from Quo’s and RingCentral’s own pricing pages, help centres, release notes and terms, read on 4 November 2026, in US dollars unless marked A$ or £.
Where Zian fits
If the calls you answer also need chasing afterwards, Zian AI is our pick over either phone system’s built-in AI: its agents answer inbound calls 24/7 as an AI receptionist that qualifies callers, books appointments, transfers calls and takes messages, then follow up by voice, SMS, email, WhatsApp, Instagram DMs and Facebook Messenger. Quo and RingCentral are both sound choices for the phone system itself, and both have an AI that answers calls.
Zian also handles answering machines and voicemail on calls, works in 30+ languages with voice cloning supported, runs research, web and knowledge-base lookups, and connects to HubSpot, Salesforce, HighLevel, Zapier and an API, with private model deployment on customer infrastructure available. Zian’s home page reports 50,769+ qualified sales appointments set and a 926% increase in follow-ups.
Zian is not the only AI on this page that answers and books. RingCentral’s AIR books into Google or Outlook calendars in the US, and Quo’s Sona answers 24/7, transfers callers and texts them a booking link, though Quo says “Sona currently answers only inbound calls.” The honest limit: Zian is in a partnership-application beta with no published prices; each of its three listed plans, including Intel + Widgets (Free Forever), starts with a partnership application. If you would rather have the work done for you, LeadsNow.ai is the done-for-you option: a managed, pay-per-result AI appointment-setting service that runs on Zian, answers leads in under 60 seconds, 24/7, and has set 50,769+ appointments.
Quo vs RingCentral: the shortlist
Rows 1 and 2 are our picks when answered calls feed a sales pipeline. Rows 3 and 4 are the head-to-head, not ranked against each other.
| # | Option | What it is | AI that answers calls | Entry price, as at 4 November 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Zian AI | AI sales and reception agents platform, inbound and outbound | AI receptionist 24/7 (qualifies, books, transfers, takes messages) plus follow-up by voice, SMS, email, WhatsApp, Instagram DMs and Facebook Messenger | No published price; partnership-application beta; Intel + Widgets listed as Free Forever |
| 2 | LeadsNow.ai | Done-for-you AI appointment setting that runs on Zian | Managed for you; leads answered in under 60 seconds, 24/7 | Pay-per-result |
| 3 | Quo (formerly OpenPhone) | Business phone system for small teams: Starter, Business, Scale | Sona: 10 calls a month free per workspace, paid tiers from US$25 for 40 calls; inbound only | Starter US$15 a user a month billed annually (US$19 monthly) |
| 4 | RingCentral | RingEX phone, video meetings and team chat; AIR as an add-on or standalone | AIR: US$39 a month add-on to RingEX or US$49 standalone, 100 minutes, then US$0.50 a minute in 30-second increments | RingEX Core US$20 a user a month billed annually (US$30 monthly) |
How we built this comparison. A vendor fact counts only when that vendor’s own pricing page, product page, help article, release note or terms state it, read in context for “coming soon”, “beta”, add-on, plan and country limits. Where two of a vendor’s own pages disagree, we print both. “We could not find” means we searched that vendor’s pricing page, product pages, help centre index and release notes for the feature and its synonyms, with a positive control on each saved file. Zian and LeadsNow.ai are described only from their own published claims. Disclosure: zian.ai publishes this page and Zian AI appears in it, ranked first; LeadsNow.ai is a sister business that runs on Zian.
What to compare before you pick
Seven criteria decide this choice, in this order: where your numbers must live (Quo’s local numbers article says “we do not yet support numbers outside of the US and Canada”); how AI calls are metered, per call or per billed minute, which outweighs the seat price at 500 calls a month; what the AI must do on the call; languages; video meetings; texting volume; and how you can leave.
Quo vs RingCentral pricing, plan by plan
The table lists US list prices per user a month from Quo’s pricing page and RingCentral’s RingEX pricing page on 4 November 2026. RingCentral prices its 1–5 user band and its 6–100 band the same; the 100+ band carries no list price.
| Plan | Annual billing, per user a month | Monthly billing, per user a month | What the plan adds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Quo Starter | US$15 (billed US$180 a year) | US$19 | One local or toll-free number per user, unlimited US and Canada calling and texting (fair use), voicemail transcripts, Quo API, Sona; AI summaries only on Sona-handled calls; shared numbers for up to 10 paid users |
| Quo Business | US$23 (US$276 a year) | US$33 | AI call summaries and transcripts, group calling, call transfers, phone menus, HubSpot and Salesforce integrations, analytics, auto call recording |
| Quo Scale | US$35 (US$420 a year) | US$47 | AI call tags, dedicated onboarding, priority support, inbound phone support |
| RingEX Core | US$20 | US$30 | Unlimited domestic calling, 100 toll-free minutes, 25 SMS a user a month, HD meetings for 300 participants, AI Virtual Assistant (AVA) included, on-demand call recording |
| RingEX Advanced | US$25 | US$35 | Adds CRM integrations, multiple sites, core reporting; 1,000 toll-free minutes, 100 SMS a user a month |
| RingEX Ultra | US$35 | US$45 | Adds RingCentral Webinar, unlimited storage; 10,000 toll-free minutes, 200 SMS a user a month |
| AI Customer Engagement Bundle | Contact us | Contact us | Everything in Ultra plus AIR and AI Conversation Expert (ACE) included |
Annual billing saves 21.1% on Quo Starter, 30.3% on Business and 25.5% on Scale, against 33.3% on RingEX Core, 28.6% on Advanced and 22.2% on Ultra. RingEX Core is US$3 a user cheaper than Quo Business on both billing cycles, and US$5 dearer than Quo Starter annually. Three limbs change the totals. Quo adds “Applicable taxes and fees” at checkout, and RingCentral says taxes and fees such as the Federal Universal Service Recovery Fee and E911 Service Fee “may apply”. Quo’s unlimited calling and texting is “Subject to our Fair Usage Policy”, which reserves the right “to impose limits and charge overages”; RingCentral says “Acceptable Use policies apply on all plans” and that unlimited calls are “limited to US and CA markets only”. Extra numbers cost US$5 a month on Quo and US$4.99 a month on RingCentral.
How Quo Sona and RingCentral AIR are billed
The billing increment is the fact that moves the bill: RingCentral’s AIR pricing page says “Call time is rounded up and billed in 30-second increments”, so a call of 2 minutes 1 second bills as 2.5 minutes. Quo’s Sona pricing article says “Sona uses 100 credits per call” and “Calls under 15 seconds don’t count toward usage.” We could not find a call-length limit or a per-minute element in that article, as at 4 November 2026.
| Quo Sona | RingCentral AIR (US) | |
|---|---|---|
| How it is sold | Inside every Quo plan; paid tiers need a paid plan, not the trial | US$39 a month as a RingEX add-on (shown as “$39 + $30” with RingEX Core) or US$49 a month standalone |
| Included | 1,000 credits (10 calls) a month per workspace | 100 minutes a month |
| Paid tiers | Tier 2 US$25 (40 calls), Tier 3 US$49 (100), Tier 4 US$99 (250), Tier 5 US$199 (600) | One price; “Additional minute bundles are available for purchase”, unpriced on the page |
| Overage | US$1.00, 0.75, 0.65, 0.55 or 0.45 a call by tier; overages off by default | US$0.50 a minute |
| Billing unit | Per call; under 15 seconds free | Per minute, rounded up to 30 seconds |
| Test calls | We could not find a rule in the Sona pricing article | “Test calls count towards your monthly minutes.” |
| Unused allowance | Credits expire each billing period; annual plans refresh monthly | Not stated on the pricing page |
| Usage alerts | Emails at 80% and 100% of credits | Email alerts at 50% to 90%, then at the limit; spam detection to protect minutes |
The limb that cuts against Quo here is control of the meter: overages are off by default, so when credits run out “calls will automatically be sent to the fallback path in your call flow instead of being picked up by Sona.” That protects the bill but costs answered calls. The limb that cuts against RingCentral is the round-up plus the test-call rule: every minute of rehearsal comes out of the same 100.
What 2, 10 and 50 users cost with 500 AI-answered calls a month
This is list-price arithmetic, computed by script, in US dollars a month before taxes and fees. Assumptions you can change: Sona and AIR each answer 500 calls a month; each call runs between 2 minutes 1 second and 2 minutes 30 seconds, which RingCentral bills as 2.5 minutes, so AIR meters 1,250 minutes (and every call passes Quo’s 15-second threshold); Quo uses its cheapest tier for 500 calls (Tier 5, US$199, which covers 600); RingCentral uses the AIR add-on, US$39 plus 1,150 minutes at US$0.50, which is US$614; no extra numbers or international calls. We price Quo Business, the lowest Quo plan whose plan card lists call transfers, against RingEX Core, the lowest RingEX plan, because AIR’s own plan table lists transfers to “Users, extensions, queues, or external numbers” and lists Salesforce, Zoho and HubSpot as AIR’s own CRM integrations.
| Stack | Formula | 2 users | 10 users | 50 users |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Quo Business + Sona Tier 5, annual billing | US$23 × users + US$199 | US$245 | US$429 | US$1,349 |
| Quo Business + Sona Tier 5, monthly billing | US$33 × users + US$199 | US$265 | US$529 | US$1,849 |
| Quo Starter + Sona Tier 5, annual billing | US$15 × users + US$199 | US$229 | US$349 | US$949 |
| Quo Starter + Sona Tier 5, monthly billing | US$19 × users + US$199 | US$237 | US$389 | US$1,149 |
| RingEX Core + AIR add-on, annual billing | US$20 × users + US$614 | US$654 | US$814 | US$1,614 |
| RingEX Core + AIR add-on, monthly billing | US$30 × users + US$614 | US$674 | US$914 | US$2,114 |
| Gap, Quo Business vs RingEX Core (either cycle) | US$415 − US$3 × users | US$409 | US$385 | US$265 |
| Texts included a month on RingEX Core | 25 SMS × users | 50 | 250 | 1,250 |
At these assumptions Quo is the lower list price at every size we modelled: 10 users cost US$429 a month on Quo Business against US$814 on RingEX Core with AIR, billed annually. The AI line explains the gap (US$199 against US$614); RingEX Core’s US$3 lower seat price narrows it by US$3 a user, so it would take about 138 users to close at these call lengths, beyond RingEX’s 6–100 list band.
Call length is the input that flips the verdict, so the second table holds 500 calls constant and changes only how long each call runs. With a mix of lengths, average the billed minutes after each call is rounded up. Sona’s line stays at US$199 because it does not meter minutes.
| Length of each AI call (RingCentral rounds up to 30 seconds) | AIR minutes billed (500 calls) | AIR add-on a month | Sona Tier 5 a month | Cheaper AI line |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 15 to 30 seconds (billed 0.5 min) | 250 | US$114 | US$199 | RingCentral, by US$85 |
| 31 to 60 seconds (billed 1.0 min) | 500 | US$239 | US$199 | Quo, by US$40 |
| 61 to 90 seconds (billed 1.5 min) | 750 | US$364 | US$199 | Quo, by US$165 |
| 91 to 120 seconds (billed 2.0 min) | 1,000 | US$489 | US$199 | Quo, by US$290 |
| 121 to 150 seconds (billed 2.5 min) | 1,250 | US$614 | US$199 | Quo, by US$415 |
| 181 to 210 seconds (billed 3.5 min) | 1,750 | US$864 | US$199 | Quo, by US$665 |
The Billed-Minute Rule
The Billed-Minute Rule: round each AI call up to the next 30 seconds and average the result; if calls bill one minute or more, Quo’s per-call Sona is the cheaper AI line at 500 calls a month; if they bill 30 seconds, RingCentral’s AIR is; but RingEX Core’s US$3 seat saving against Quo Business overturns the total from 14 users at one billed minute, from 56 users at 1.5 billed minutes and from 97 users at 2 billed minutes. At one billed minute the AI lines are US$239 against US$199, a US$40 gap that RingEX Core’s US$3 seat saving closes at 14 users (US$519 on RingCentral against US$521 on Quo Business, annual billing). Break-even is 420 AIR minutes, 0.84 of a minute a call. Measure your real call lengths from your call logs before trusting any total. For how AIR’s per-minute model compares with a per-conversation meter, see our Dialpad vs RingCentral AI receptionist comparison.

What each AI receptionist does on a call
RingCentral’s AIR can book straight into a calendar in the US; Quo’s Sona texts a link and lets the caller book.
| Quo Sona | RingCentral AIR | |
|---|---|---|
| Booking | Texts a scheduling link mid-call; “Sona can’t handle rescheduling and cancellations on a live call” | US: books in real time into Google or Outlook calendars (one account per provider, up to 100 schedules each) or texts a booking link; AU and UK pages: appointment scheduling “coming soon” |
| Transfers | Confirms, transfers, then “leaves the call entirely and cannot return” | Transfers to users, extensions, queues or external numbers; keypad (DTMF) extension transfer added 23 September 2026 |
| Texting on the call | Send SMS to the caller’s number only; the number must be registered for A2P 10DLC or toll-free messaging | SMS follow-ups and an AI SMS agent; the page says “Additional charges may apply” to the SMS agent |
| Texts in, not calls | Sona lead capture over SMS, in beta and free while in beta | AI SMS agent and text inquiry automation |
| Languages | English, Spanish and French; see the note below on switching | US: English (US, UK, AUS), French (Canadian and European), Spanish, Latin American Spanish, Italian, German and Portuguese, automatic switching; Japanese added 23 September 2026. AU and UK: English, French and Spanish |
| Outbound calls | “Sona currently answers only inbound calls.” | We could not find an outbound skill for AIR; RingCentral’s separate AIR Pro page says it supports “inbound and outbound conversations” through an early-access programme |
| Other phone systems | Runs inside a Quo workspace | Standalone AIR “Works with any phone” via call forwarding or SIP integration |
| Free trial | 7-day Sona trial for eligible customers, unlimited usage, auto-converts to paid | 14-day free trial on both AIR plans |
Two of Quo’s own pages disagree on languages. The Sona page FAQ says “Sona cannot detect or switch between languages mid-call”, while the Sona setup article, in a section marked Beta, says that with two or three languages selected Sona can “Detect the language the caller is speaking and respond in that same language.” RingCentral’s pages also disagree with each other: the US AIR plan card marks “WhatsApp, Calendly, and Shopify integrations” as coming soon, while the same page’s comparison table lists Calendly beside Google and Outlook without that mark (its Shopify and WhatsApp rows carry the same coming-soon mark), and RingCentral’s help centre lists articles on Calendly booking and Shopify for AIR. If you choose RingCentral, our RingCentral AI Receptionist setup guide walks through AIR Studio step by step.
Texting, video meetings and team chat
Quo includes unlimited messaging to US and Canadian numbers on all three plans, subject to fair use, after you register with The Campaign Registry: Quo lists a one-time US$19.50 review fee and a monthly messaging fee of US$1.50 to US$3. Automated texts sent through the API, Zapier or Make cost 1 cent a segment. RingEX Core includes 25 SMS a user a month, Advanced 100 and Ultra 200; RingCentral sells more through its Business SMS Booster (US$25) or High Volume SMS (from US$0.0119 a message), and says “Additional TCR fees may apply for registration.” A 10-user team on Core shares 250 texts a month.
Meetings are RingCentral’s clearest advantage. RingEX Core includes HD video meetings for 300 participants and team messaging, and Ultra adds RingCentral Webinar. We could not find video meetings on Quo, as at 4 November 2026: we searched its pricing page, its 524-URL sitemap, its help-centre index and its changelog. What Quo does offer is conference calling with “up to 10 participants”, on Business and Scale.
Contracts, trials and cancelling
Quo’s pricing FAQ says you can cancel “at any time through the Quo app in just a few clicks” and that the subscription “will remain fully active until the end of your current billing cycle.” Its subscription article adds the limb that matters on annual billing: “No refunds : Payments already made are non-refundable.” Quo’s pages disagree on how long numbers survive a cancellation: the pricing FAQ says 60 days, the subscription article says “30 days maximum”.
RingCentral’s Terms of Service (marked “Last updated: February 23, 2022” on 4 November 2026) say recurring services “will automatically renew for successive periods of the same length as the Initial Term” unless either party gives notice “at least thirty (30) days before” the term ends. If you terminate for any reason other than RingCentral’s material breach or the regulatory-change clause, you must, “to the extent permitted by applicable Law”, pay “all sums remaining unpaid for the Services for the remainder of the then-current Term plus related Taxes and fees.” On an annual RingEX plan that means the rest of the year. Your order form sets the term.
Quo’s trial is 7 days, needs a card, has no US texting (it “Requires paid plan”), and excludes calling or texting outside the US and Canada. RingEX’s trial is 14 days and supports up to 20 phone lines in its FAQ, but its disclaimer limits the trial to “a maximum of five users and two desktop phones” and says “SMS is not available for trial use.” AIR has its own 14-day free trial.
Quo vs RingCentral outside the US: Australia, UK and international calling
Quo supports only US and Canadian local and toll-free numbers, though you can use them from any country. Calls and texts to other countries use prepaid credits: Quo’s rates page lists calls to Australia at US$0.05 to US$0.33 a minute and texts at US$0.11, and we could not find a rounding rule for those per-minute rates on that page or its international calling article. RingCentral sells local plans in each market and international numbers from US$5.99 a user a month on the US page.
For AIR, RingCentral’s product page says it is available “as a standalone or add-on license” in the U.S. and Canada, “and as an add-on in the U.K., Australia, and EU.” The Australian AIR page lists A$62 per account a month with 100 minutes, then A$0.80 a minute, and the UK AIR page lists £32 with 100 minutes, then £0.40 a minute, both billed in 30-second increments, both with appointment scheduling “coming soon”. At our 500-call, 2.5-minute assumption that AIR line is A$982 or £492 a month. Australian RingEX seats price by user count: Standard is A$37.99 a user a month billed annually for 2 to 99 users (A$45.99 for one user), before GST, and it is the first Australian plan with video meetings; Essentials (A$22.99, up to 49 users) has no video. In the UK, Standard is £14.99 for 2 to 19 users and £13.99 for 20 to 99, annually.

Who each option is wrong for
Quo is wrong for a business that needs numbers outside the US and Canada, for callers in languages beyond English, Spanish and French, for anyone who wants the AI to write bookings into a calendar or to call leads back (Sona is inbound only), and for outbound calling at volume: its fair-use policy says “Do not use bots, auto-dialers, or any automated calling systems under any circumstances.” Comparing Quo with a dialler-first rival? Our JustCall vs Quo comparison covers that.
RingCentral is wrong for a small US team whose AI calls run two minutes or more and who mainly wants answering at the lowest list price: at 500 calls, AIR’s per-minute meter costs more than twice Sona’s Tier 5. It is a harder fit if you text heavily on Core (25 SMS a user a month), want AIR in Australia, the UK or the EU without RingEX, need booking there today, or want an exit before an annual term ends.
Quo vs RingCentral: frequently asked questions
Is Quo or RingCentral cheaper?
Quo’s AI line is cheaper at list price once calls bill a minute or more on RingCentral. With 10 users and 500 AI-answered calls of just over two minutes each, Quo Business with Sona costs US$429 a month billed annually, against US$814 for RingEX Core with RingCentral AI Receptionist, as at 4 November 2026. If most calls end within 30 seconds, RingCentral’s AI line is cheaper (US$114 against US$199).
Is Quo the same as OpenPhone?
Yes. Quo’s fair-use policy names the company as “OpenPhone (DBA: Quo)”, its Sona page’s title ends “Quo (formerly OpenPhone)”, and its pricing page footer reads OpenPhone Technologies, Inc. The plans, numbers and Sona AI agent are the same product under the new name.
How much does RingCentral AI Receptionist cost?
In the US, AIR is US$39 a month as a RingEX add-on or US$49 standalone, each with 100 minutes, then US$0.50 a minute. RingCentral’s AIR pricing page says “Call time is rounded up and billed in 30-second increments.” In Australia it is A$62 per account a month, then A$0.80 a minute; in the UK £32, then £0.40.
How much does Quo’s Sona AI agent cost?
Every Quo workspace gets 1,000 credits a month, about 10 calls, and each Sona call uses 100 credits. Paid tiers run from US$25 for 40 calls to US$199 for 600, with overage from US$1.00 down to US$0.45 a call, according to Quo’s Sona pricing article. Calls under 15 seconds don’t count.
Can RingCentral AI Receptionist book appointments?
Yes in the US: RingCentral’s help centre says AIR “books appointments in real-time by offering available time slots to callers” from a connected Google or Outlook calendar, or texts a booking link. RingCentral’s Australian and UK AIR pages list appointment scheduling as “coming soon”.
Can Quo’s Sona make outbound calls?
No. Quo’s Sona page says “Sona currently answers only inbound calls.” Quo’s fair-use policy also bars “bots, auto-dialers, or any automated calling systems”.
Can I use Quo or RingCentral in Australia?
Quo’s local numbers article says “we do not yet support numbers outside of the US and Canada”, so an Australian business would run on US or Canadian numbers. RingCentral sells Australian RingEX plans, and AIR is available there as a RingEX add-on at A$62 per account a month with 100 minutes.
Does Quo have video meetings like RingCentral?
We could not find video meetings on Quo, as at 4 November 2026, after searching its pricing page, sitemap, help-centre index and changelog. Quo offers audio conference calling with up to 10 participants on Business and Scale. RingEX Core includes HD video meetings for 300 participants.
